Directors' report period ended 30 November 2023

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 November 2023

Principal activities of the company

The organisation aims to improve the physical, emotional, mental well being of boys from African descent and break the stereotype of how African boys are raised. These are the organisation’s activities and impact on the community for the financial year November 2022 to November 2023:Faith Projects: involves faith leaders in the community encouraging the boys through prayers and counselling to demonstrate ethical values and moral principles thereby fostering compassion and togetherness in their communities.Release the Pressure: An event for parents/carers to encourage them to release the pressure on boys from African descent to perform academically. Report shows that exam pressure and pressure to perform is one of the leading causes of depression and suicidal tendencies amongst children. This session encouraged parents/carers to create safe spaces for children to express themselves and not resort to extreme measures such as suicide. Reducing the number of suicides and having children that are emotionally sound is a benefit to every communityBoys 2 Men Real Talk: Discussing puberty, body changes, and how to control emotions that come with puberty. This aims to reduce the aggressive and anti – social behaviour in schools, at home and the community that comes with the frustration of not understanding body and emotional changes associated with puberty. Sexual wellbeing is crucial to public health.Well-being project including face – to – face: Well - being project to address issues affecting the overall well being of boys from African descent. This includes virtual weekly Zoom sessions and monthly face – to – face hangouts. Educating the boys about what well being is and how to look after their overall well-being and become impactful in their communities as a community I sonly as important as the people in it.Topics such as anger management were addressed. Most boys from African descent do not know hoe to control their emotions and express anger without becoming aggressive or violent. This mostly stems from how they are raised to hide their emotions and take everything in. However, this has led to increasing aggressive behaviour in our communities, use of drugs and alcohol to supress their emotions leading to substance abuse, gang crime and sometimes death. Educating them on anger and anger management improves their communication skills, encourages them that it is okay to walk away from fights, and talk about things in a clam and respectful manner. It also encourages them to move away from gang culture and become positive members of the communities that they belong.Monthly face – to - face hangouts bring together boys from different communities in Manchester in a relaxing environment where they can be themselves, improve their social skills and interact with people from different communities. All the activities aim to promote community cohesion, reduce number of boys joining gangs and county lines drug trafficking. It also aims to showcase boys from African descent who are doing great work for their communities and schools. We had approximately 50 boys from African descent who started giving back to their communities by volunteering in other organisations after our sessions, reducing isolation. Parents/carers reporting about changes in their sons who were displaying anti-social behaviours now being able to express themselves without aggression or violence. Parents/cares also recognising the part they must play to foster and create safe spaces for boys to thrive at home, schools and their communities.
