Strood Community Development CIC does not have any fixed assets. Fixed assets, when acquired, are depreciated on a straight line basis over:- equipment - 5 years;- ICT equipment - 3 years.
Strood Community Development CIC continues to work to develop community projects in and around Strood. It continues to supervise the expenditure of money raised in the social enterprise, Strood Community Shop CIC, ensuring that it is spent for the public benefit, when it is not being donated to charities. As a company limited by guarantee with no shareholders, it ensure that the money raised can only be used for the community benefit. Where Strood Community Shop CIC donates its profits direct to charities, Strood Community Development CIC continues to supervise that giving. In particular this year Strood Community Development CIC assisted in setting up the Strood Community Fund, a charitable giving fund overseen by CAF Bank with independent trustees. This ensures that charitable giving by Strood Community Shop CIC has independent oversight. In addition Strood Community Development CIC helped set up Strood Community Cuddles, another innovative project under the Strood Community brand, which is a free visitor attraction in Strood. A small range of cuddly animals are available for visitors to pet and interact with. It has proven a big success in attracting new visitors to the town, but surprisingly it has been a hit with older adults, providing a reason to leave home and visit the town which does not involve expenditure on shopping.
Most of our consultation was with Medway Council's animal control department, in the creation of Strood Community Cuddles, to ensure that we remained on the right side of the law.
