Company activities and impact

The Kington Youth Hub set up a youth club to provide an opportunity for young people with limited opportunities to come together to learn and share skills with each other in a dedicated space. It aims to:- prevent isolation and increase communication with young people and between young people and other members of the community. - Meet the young people’s needs and signposting to external services when required. - Give young people the opportunity to shape the space and the activities with in it.From October 2022 the Kington Youth Hub was established as a Community Interest company and made the necessary arrangements to set up and provided a weekly Youth club for young people aged 10-14. A venue was identified and set up to meet the needs of Young people and 8 volunteers recruited and vetted to run the club. The volunteers bring a range of experiences and interests which can be shared with the young people .The required policies were put in place, membership forms developed and the club started 1st February 2023. The number of members has gradually grown to a membership of 35 with regular weekly attendance of between 12 and 20 young people . The young people come from a range of backgrounds and ethnicities and are able to access the club on their own terms. For some this is the only out of school activity that they attend This means some come every week and others when they want to come The club provides a space for young people to meet, and to have new experiences , including art and music activities, tennis table and pool. A meal is provided and the young people are involved in setting out the food and clearing away. The directors in discussion with young people have has also identified a need for a activities for the 14-16 year olds in a separate club and this ran from June 2023. This initially had a total membership of 5 but it was expected to growThe club has enabled young people to develop their interests and to learn to understand their place in the community. During the summer young people made articles to sell in the community shop during the Youth Hubs week in August 2023

Consultation with stakeholders

The young people are an integral part of running the club. Due to their age formal consultation meetings are not held but consultation is integral to the running of the club and the development of new activities. For example: - They were helped to develop the ground rules for the club- They voted on the activities they wanted to have in the club and what trips they would like to see- They give regular feedback as what has worked well and not so well- As they become more familiar with the club they are able to take a greater role in the development of the club with a view to establishing a members reference group
