The Yorkshire-based, not-for-profit, Community Interest Company Future Intentions York-shire moved into its Year 2 of operating as a CIC November 2022, we have identified a reduced capacity in engaging with potential new volunteers since Covid, we have engaged with women on our project, but found women had more challenges and concerns around committing towards becoming involved in volunteering with us, other organisations have cited similar challenges in volunteer recruitment drives, women cited increased pressures to secure employment under DWP reform in the benefits system for fear of losing entitlement to benefits, for many of our clients and potential cli-ents it is a lifeline to survive, further limiting ill health, particularly around poor mental health and limitations on accessing the right professional interventions. This was a concerning trend, but we still felt positive about turning things around for building our team, we started work in taking a new direction. Our rationale behind our decision was to increase our organisational capacity to deliver increased levels of tailored employment and skills support for women across Ryedale and York, across 2023 we had to consider a 360% turn around to how we did things around volunteer recruitment and retention. We started a new campaign to build collaborations with colleges and universities to look at a new potential pool of volunteers, students looking for opportunities to build workplace experience alongsidestudying. We developed a new and exciting partnership with York St John University in late 2023 and were invited to showcase our work with women to the students, we had a good level of interest and felt enthused by our new partnership, we worked hard across 2023 to strengthen this relationship and use it positively for a model to engage with other colleges and universities around York.We also strengthened our partnership with IDAS in the start of our Year 2 in November 2022, connected with not only grassroots staff working directly with clients, we worked with the support of the IDAS team based in York Refuge early in 2023 to work with the women who have fled domestic abuse and currently under the care of the refuge often with families, my own lived experience of domestic abuse and coercive control lead me to offer a programme of employment & skills support to give the women opportunities to move on with their lives into sustainable employment via training and volunteering oppor-tunities with local organisations and training providers. We propose to continue this work throughout 2023 and beyond, we have identified many training needsincluding English & Maths, digital skills and ESOL (English for Speaker of Other Languages), we offer employment and skills support to engage with available opportunities to improve their employment prospects, we strengthened our position by building trusting relationships with the local training providers and Councils.Early 2023 we approached with a revised delivery plan for our proposed Employment, Skills and Social pilot project the North Yorkshire Council, after a challenging attempt in 2022 to set up our proposed project in the local Ryedale area, we were successful in securing funding for the pilot project, for local women to access a range of opportunities to improve women employment prospects, levels of community engagement and skills set whilst improving confidence, peer-to-peer and community en-gagement whilst reducing social isolation and loneliness, we engaged women in the local area via job fairs and networking events we exhibited at and worked with our partners and supporters to recruit participants onto the project, the women cited many benefits including new friendships, also enjoying art & craft and wellbeing activities e.g chair yoga as part of Get Active funded initiative with Ryedale, Scarborough and Whiby Mind, en-joyed greatly by everyone including staff, with many benefits including improved health and wellbeing, we invited a local yoga teacher to be part of the initiative in the delivery of the project. Our project ran successfully from March 2023 into our Year 3 in late 2023. We also set up a local women’s journaling group with a small fund from a local community organisation, we had great success with this pilot project and women cited increased levels of confidence, better management of poor mental health as they benefited from expressing difficult life experiences in a meaningful way, which many women adopting journalling into our home lives. We ended our second year on a high note with lots of positives for our organisation, our beneficiaries and other stakeholders we had worked with throughout 2023. Although a challenging year in many ways we have started to turn the tide on our challenges and looking forward to moving into Year 3.We also see our future growth in connecting and building new relationships with funders and commissioners across Yorkshire, whilst extending our reach to many more women in 2023 and beyond, we have amazing supporters and our team continues to be amazing even in the months of adversity we had experienced.
The Company stakeholders are our customers, directors, volunteers, collaborative and referral partners, signposting organisations and funders.Stakeholders have been consulted with questionnaires, email updates, newsletters, face to face discussions and in response to feedback we have set up a range of workshops (online and face to face), peer support sessions (online and face to face), Facebook page & LinkedIn profile and company website, employability support and confidence building sessions (online and face-to-face).Regular feedback to questions, queries are followed up via our Facebook page and directly via email communications. The accounts were prepared by Solutions Accountancy, Huddersfield by Mr Paul Dangirwa and presented to the director board of Future Intentions Yorkshire (Community Interest Company).
