This has been Tales in Sombre Tones CIC first year as a community interest company, so we have focused on training, planning and consultation. We started trading at the end of the year and used the income from that to upgrade the company website in preparation for launching new projects. That has enabled us to increase the amount of accessible media we can offer online. We have also added a virtual 3d gallery so that members of the community unable to attend in person events can enjoy the exhibition experience at home.
Our stakeholders are creatives and audiences who have faced barriers to accessing the arts, through lack of provision for disabilities, and/or economic and geographical factors. Through networking and training events in Newcastle, we have met people with diverse lived experience of these complex issues. We have invited them to join us as collaborators and formed a focus group. That has enabled us to present our ideas for accessible experiences and get feedback from those affected. In response to that input, we have developed plans for new projects that will broaden our activities, so we can reach more people and encourage active participation at every stage, ensuring that events are created with communities.
