Fem de la Femme has given numerous opportunities for female comedians and poets to showcase their talent and develop their craft. Our events platform women at all stages of their career from first time performers to professionals. This project came about as response to a male dominated circuit with very few opportunities for women in the local area. Fem de la Femme has also ran workshops for all women in the community to access to help develop self confidence and public speaking skills through the lens of humour. We platformed 65 women performersRan 7 Find your Funny workshops in the communityRan a Menopause Special event collaborating with a local Writers organisation and the primary Care health trustReceived Funding via the local Primary Care Health trust to run 12 workshops in the community hubs for women – such as domestic violence, mental health and rape crisis servicesWe have ran 12 events on a monthly basis keeping ticket sales affordable to ensure access to all and reduce social isolation, almost all the events sold outWe have provided information at each event about local support services for women and helped raised their profilesGiven free recordings of all performers acts in order to help with finding further opportunitiesGiven volunteer/work experience to 6 different women throughout the year – both during the events and with marketing
Having been part of the comedy circuit since 2019 and spoken with many female comedians during that time. Most of whom had expressed the challenges and frustrations of getting platform opportunities in the region. Fem de la femme was set up in response to this feedback from women in the circuit.During workshops I have given feedback forms to all participants help inform the development of these workshops.I have asked audience members and performers to give feedback both positive and negative on their experience of the events to help inform future eventsI have also responded to partnerships requests and requests from female comedians for opportunities to perform full length work in progress shows by organising a women’s comedy festival in 2023, unfortunately due to lack of funds this did come to fruition but is now rescheduled for 2025
