The Chard Community Hub CIC is an organisation providing support to the community of Chard who are in need of assistance they are unable to access from elsewhere. We run the following activities on a regular basis: A Community Fridge, A Food Pantry, A sewing Group, An Arts & Crafts group, A Mums & Munchkins Playgroup, A Repair Hub and Sewing Workshop. We also provide pre-loved school uniform for sale or swap and a range of events throughout the year for children and families. We also provide a drop-in service where people can get support from us, the police, a local housing association, and other agencies or just have a coffee and a chat. We are celebrating our 2nd birthday at the end of May 2024 but already some of our achievements are as follows:1. Sold £800 worth of school uniform A blazer is about £40 new we charge £5 everything else is just £1.2. Over 4000 bags of food have been given out by the Community Food Fridge and we have given out over 350 bags of food from the food Pantry in just over a year.3. Prevented 1598kg of food going to landfill.4. Repaired 350 garments and 100 other items e.g. sewing machines, vacuum cleaners etc.5. We have assisted over1600 people with advice, information, and signposting from Bus times, filling in PIP forms, support for homeless and people escaping domestic violence.6. Had 409 attendances at our arts & crafts group, 198 at our daytime sewing group with a further 173 at the evening session.7. A minimum of 58 people have called in to meet the police and seek advice.8. Had over 400 attendances at our Mums & Munchkins group in 8 weeks.9. Nearly 2000 people have benefitted from our events programme which provides a variety of activities in school holidays and special occasions such as Halloween & Christmas.10. Won a High Sherriff of Somerset Award & are among 3 finalists for A Prince of Wales Award.
There has been no formal consultation with our stakeholders although we respond regularly to feedback as a way of ensuring we are meeting local need. The local council undertook a significant piece of work to create a community plan. We have taken heed of this in determining our provision.
