for the Year Ended 31 October 2023 |
The trustees, who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st October 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the U and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1st January 2019). |
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES |
Objectives and aims |
A.F.T.S have successfully completed all this year's projects, aims and objectives within the selected schools in the North West, North Wales and Lancashire. |
1: This year we have attracted Lottery funding, donations and some partnership funding, all helping us sustain the maintenance, tax and insurance, upkeep of the vehicles, domain registrations and website renewals and upkeep. We have further developed our creative hub area in West Lancashire known as "Communitas" and are used by our volunteer helpers, and the local community including other charitable organisations helping to facilitate various workshops, creative activities and tuition. |
2: Our creative tea, and volunteers as usual have been really prolific and busy and innovative concerning our projects, ensuring maximum benefits and enriching the participants and the end user, and the institutions. Our benefactors include the "Rainbow Kids" special needs care centre, catering for 5-25 years olds. The Art For Their Sake team have improved the complexions of the special needs centre, by creating and painting extensive and vibrant 8X4 Medite M.D.F boards, creating a beautiful under the se wonderland with Dolphins coral, exotic fish etc. |
3: Our artists and volunteers provided various mural scenarios on the walls of key waiting area within Arrowe Park Hospital. |
4: We provided a 360 degree, undersea, marine life mural Quiet/Therapeutic room at the Norman Pannell Primary School in Liverpool. It was constructed and painted by A.F.T.S Mentors and included the school pupils within a workshop structure and we also used local volunteers. |
5: Exterior extensive wildlife mural painted by our artists and volunteers at Scared Heart School, on 8X4 Medite exterior boards, featuring various, popular landmarks around the Wirral area, that were installed Acorns to Oak Joinery. |
6: A substantial, extended educational mural project throughout the main corridor at the Plas Derwen Special School in Wales. The project involved many of the resident pupils under the supervision and guidance of our senior coordinators and mentors within the copious workshops. We also had the kids painting on the corridors in situ. |
7: We designed and painted a 360 degree mural based on space and planets at Nugent House, which is a residential school for students with emotional behaviour and mental health needs. |
8: We completed a local wildlife mural, also featuring local landmarks, flora and fauna at the Footsteps nursery school in Deeside Chester. |

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES |
Significant activities |
The Art For Their Sake team have been engaged in embracing many local community charities, care groups, and CIC like the invaluable Break Free organisation and other connected groups. We have also provided projects and tuition for specific specialist primary schools and academies; all of the projects were a resounding success and have led to many future opportunities, call-backs and projects. |
AFTS provided a substantial all inclusive and educational mural art projects at the Rainbow Kids Centre in Kirkby, Liverpool, catering for all demographics within the institution, and all abilities. |
All out amazing volunteers came together to enable us to create a pleasant, educational, multi-coloured environment, transforming the original drab, draconian interior of the institution. |
Communitas art and crafts hub - Art For Their Sake has had great success once again, in the combining the various "Communitas" community arts and craft events providing practical tuition and guidance within the creation of a huge mural on the 8X4 M.D.F segments that would also be donated to various children's institutions. |
These AFTS practical workshops are also linked in with our fundraising events and charitable weekend events. We aim to offer various and diverse workshops going forward and embrace to larger demographic, and cater for all levels of abilities. |
Therapeutic spaces (Quiet Rooms) - After many years our mentors and volunteers are still creating many quiet room environments within children's schools, the latest of which was within Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral, where we had once again created the opportunity for volunteers and public to actively engage in the creative process, painting and developing some beautiful mural scenarios. |

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT |
Governing document |
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006. |
Art For Their Sake Limited is run to provide art work and interactive murals in hospitals and special needs centres. |
The company (Company Registration No:3451420), is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association and is limited by guarantee. (Charity Registration No:1090149) is registered as a charity under the Charities Act 1960. |
Recruitment and appointment of new trustees |
Trustee directors are elected at the AGM. Trustee directors can be appointed at other times in particular circumstances. |
Organisational structure |
The board of trustees can have a minimum of 3 members. The board meets regularly to discuss the plans for the charity and funding developments. A business manager is appointed by the trustees to manage the day to day operations of the charity. |

Induction and training of new trustees |
New trustees undergo an orientation day to brief them on their legal obligations under charity and company law, the content of the Memorandum, and Articles of Association, the committee and decision making processes, the business plan and the recent financial performance of the charity. |

1. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
Basis of preparing the financial statements |
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. |
Income |
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the bcharity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. |
Expenditure |
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. |
Tangible fixed assets |
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life. |
Taxation |
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities. |
Fund accounting |
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. |
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. |
