The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 November 2023

Principal activities of the company

Solidaritech is a Community Interest Company that exists to help refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants to get access to technology. The company source old laptops, desktops, tablets and smartphones, wipe and refurbish them before distributing them to migrants who do not have ready access to technology. Solidaritech completed its final year as a delivery partner with Migration Yorkshire, contracted to provide repurposed devices for refugees across 11 partner local authorities funded from the EU/UK Government’s Asylum, Migration Integration Fund. The company employs one full and two part time workers to lead operations, and support volunteers working on the project. Solidaritech also provides up to date signposts for mobile data and adult education providers for the refugees can access local training for digital life and work skills. We have continued to secure additional community donation points across Yorkshire and seek individual and corporate donor support via charitable grants, generating additional income through sales and services. The organisation is developing community tech projects, volunteering and skills building projects aimed at creating opportunities for refugees and other new settlers in the UK.

Consultation with stakeholders

Solidaritech continue to work closely with partner organisations in Bradford, West Yorkshire and the rest of the region. BIASAN (Bradford Immigration and Asylum Support and Advice Network) and LASSN (Leeds Asylum Seeker Support Network) have been frequent referrers for our service, as have Bradford City of Sanctuary. In the wider region we are continuing to work with the Refugee Rights Hub at Sheffield Hallam University.Outside of the migrant sector we have continued to work with Ucan Secure IT to ensure that e-waste from unusable or damaged donations is recycled in the most environmentally responsible manner, locally.
