Leicester Musical Memory Box C.I.C is delighted to have completed a sixth year working with people affected by dementia and have expanded the number of our groups, with plans and taster sessions for two more underway. We have continued to build on our successes, strengthening relationships with peer organisations and offering regular groups around Leicestershire. We also have a small group of people attending and benefitting who live with other health issues IE brain injury, stroke and also have been bereaved. Our culturally specific group for the Asian community, ‘Geet Sangeet’, runs weekly face to face, and now has an online group twice a week. We continue our partnership with Charnwood Arts and our regular English speaking group and Geet Sangeet group in the Charnwood district continue to grow and thrive The Company’s sixth year of trading from financial year 2022 to 2023 have seen theCompany’s activities benefit the community in the following ways:Our online attendance decreased to only 2 or 3 people and we decided to cease that group releasing funds to the set-up of another face to face group We have regular attendees at each group with a small but steady core of attendees at our new groups. Face2face numbers are steadily increasing as dementia diagnosis rates continue to increase and relieve that National diagnosis backlog caused by the pandemic. We have been able to network more actively, attending more events in person- meeting peer professionals and also our demographic. We continue to receive feedback that carers need us more than ever for a regular activity to just get out of the house and experience the highly social side of our groups and receive peer support. We also continue to receive thanks from families when their loved one passes away or goes into care and that is rewarding,Our relationship with an inner-city community church, the Unitarian Chapel continues and we held a dementia friendly Bluebell walk and sing at the church as well as a well attended dementia friendly Christmas Carol service. We held DF carol services in other areas including Market Harborough which was very well attended. Leicester Cathedral is now open again and we’ve already held a big sing event there together with Alzheimer’s Society and a dementia friendly carol service is booked in for Christmas 2024. We are expanding the reach of our DF carol services and this year there will be one in Loughborough as well.We have continued in a good relationship with Curve theatre and held another ‘Big Sing’ there in Dementia Action Week (May) together with Alzheimer’s Society, attracting over 130 people. Our one2one sessions using Playlists for Life continue and are well received. All three group facilitators can now deliver P4L sessions with the notable addition funding for P4L delivery in the South Asian community most recently achieved in July 2024.Our annual project, ‘Hear and Now’ together with the Philharmonic Orchestra was held in May 2024 and went well. The Orchestra are keen to expand on the HnN project and other possible activities. We built on our relationships with local BBC radio and a local South Asian radio station to promote our aims and group services. We facilitated group bookings to theatre which is a wonderful experience for families as well. We achieved a small amount of funding to facilitate a DF small local cinema showing in South Leicestershire which went very well ; we plan to do this again. We have continued to apply for appropriate grants and funds and feel we are doing well with our successes there! We feel our name and brand is growing and is strong. We have received invites for larger scale community events such as Leicester and Loughborough MELA andLeicester Pride and will be attending these. We also plan to attend the launch of the new centre of excellence for Dementia in September 2024
We work together with Charnwood Arts Registered Charity 1143163. We facilitate and deliver a twice monthly group for Charnwood Arts. They are happy to continue this arrangement with three years funding secured
