COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SWALE MEDIA ARTS CENTRE CIC

Company Number: 13301802 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2024

Company activities and impact

Swale Media Arts Centre (SMAC) has now been trading for three years as a community hub, gallery, and media centre with IT equipment, room hire, film shows and a small museum. We work with the local community to provide supportive, low and no charge workshops and activities for a variety of groups and organisation from across Swale.

Consultation with stakeholders

We have this year continued engaging with local artisans and groups interested in hiring our exhibition space on the ground floor of the building, as well as hosting exhibitions and events funded by grants we have raised; including a two week collaboration with heritage groups across Swale in November 2023. We continue to support wildlife groups and work with local schools to promote recycling and support for endangered animals. In September some of the out comes from our Mindful Monday, Zero to Hero, recycling programme were exhibited at an Environmental Seminar held at Canterbury Cathedral. We were also very pleased to receive a Highly Commended award at the 2023 Kent Mental Wellbeing Awards, where the judges said they were impressed with our initiatives and the amount of hard work and dedication required to deliver them.We aim to continue our work with other local heritage groups and build on our community activities to support those in need across Swale. We have continued to find funding that has assisted the needs of SMAC in the past year and continue to explore all avenues to support our work. Whilst run completely by Volunteers we hope to be able to raise funding to allow us to employ a part-time administrator which will enhance our activities and enable us to do more to support the local community, and grow and promote our activities. We are also seeking to work more closely with retail outlets we share the High Street area with to encourage communal activities that will improve the use of the Town Centre and enrich the area.Stakeholders include the local community, funders, members of our Friends of Swale Media Arts Centre, the seven members of our Board of Management and of course our Volunteers who do a great deal to support this project. We also work with the local Community Volunteer Service organisation to share best practice on a number of procedural matters.
