Company activities and impact

The Dracume Company CIC is a theatre and performing arts company that focuses on supporting LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent/disabled early career creatives. The Dracume Company CIC began operating in November 2022. During the financial year 2022-2023, The Dracume Company CIC’s activities benefited its community in the following ways: - It set out a professional and safe standard of working for the early career creatives involved in theatrical productions, whilst ensuring that these professional environments had space for participants to learn and expand key knowledge and skills that would make them competitive within the larger arts industry. -It commissioned new plays written, directed and performed by young LGBTQ+ creatives, this opportunity providing professional level experience to all involved. - It commissioned a new writing festival with a focus on uplifting emerging, queer and otherwise overlooked voices, while creating an inclusive learning environment for the 5 commissioned writers and over 35 early career creatives involved, such as actors, designers and stage managers.- It entertained, educated and inspired just under 500 audience members with The Dracume Company CIC’s various theatre shows and new writing festivals.

Consultation with stakeholders

The Dracume Company CIC stakeholders are the young emerging creatives, especially those part of the LGBTQ+ community, those who are neurodivergent and those looking for an inclusive, validating, and professional space to create work. Audiences from these key groups are also considered stakeholders. At the end of each artistic project we conduct a lengthy interview with all members of the team. These are to assess chiefly that our core aim of an inclusive environment has been met, to understand how creatives have developed during the process and how we could’ve further helped them develop. Post show conversations are held in local community spaces where audience feedback is received and collated, after which teams will meet and discuss said feedback.Conducting this research, we have found that we need to enable clear communication and set out further standards of organisation. We have also found that young creatives have found confidence, maturity, and a more detailed career path for themselves. The main piece of feedback we have received from those we have worked with and those we have performed to is that there is a sense of freedom in being trusted to take creative ownership of a story and a vision, something that is especially empowering considering our work with marginalised communities.
