2023 has proven to be yet another financially successful year for ASPiH. Following the challenging pandemic years where it proved impossible to deliver our annual conferences in person, the success of the Brighton conference in November 2023 served to demonstrate that ASPiH is essentially a membership organisation; the opportunity to share ideas and experiences, collaborate on novel research projects and develop new areas of practice is fundamental to the financial stability of the Association as well as the development of simulation in the UK and more widely. 2023 saw an increase to 18 in the number of members of the ASPiH Executive Committee. This planned expansion occurred in response to the growing workload and breadth of activity of the committee, as the Association continues to grow and develop. The revised ASPiH Standards (2023) took up much time and effort and they received a lot of positive feedback upon their publication in November, leading directly to the signing of several new affiliations with other global organisations. ASPiH continues to explore novel methods to support our membership, examples of which includes the inaugural ASPiH Research Grants that will be made available to members during 2024 as well as enhanced support to help grow and support our popular simulation interest groups. ASPiH will celebrate it's 15th Anniversary in 2024 and plans are well underway to celebrate this event with ASPiH's largest and most exciting conference yet. This event promises to attract a record number of delegates and industry colleagues to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre in November and will help increase the visibility of the Association on the national and international scene. The ASPiH directors and executive committee will continue to focus on controlling operating costs and ensure safeguards are in place to guarantee the ongoing financial stability of the Association. The planned review of our business support services contract during 2024 will be a significant undertaking and will inevitably lead to an increase in expenditure on secretariat and conference management services in view of the recent high inflation environment. The ASPiH board are committed to ensuring the process is delivered in as seamless and cost-effective fashion as possible, whilst ensuring the Association's activities are managed in a proactive and professional manner. |
