CULTURE BRIDGE MCR spent most of the year organising and delivering art and cultural workshops in Stockport and Manchester area. Our group succeeded in creating more cultural bridges through sharing and delivering the art activities, workshop seminars, film seasons, Children HAF projects, women art and culture projects, and celebrating annual festivals and cultures. With the support of our lovely volunteers and community and the various funds we received, we were able to support each other and develop our work.We organised weekly activity workshops, Women workshops, Music Workshops, Arts and crafts workshops, Children and Adults Play activities, English Language activities. Throughout the year Culture Bridge MCR continued to offer free, workshops and events to the community-2018 to date - Women workshops on Fridays.Refugee Connect Workshops - 2020-to date on Wednesdays2018-to date - Children Art and Culture workshops on Saturdays2022-to date - Children HAF workshops during the school holidays.Also, Culture Bridge organised and delivered several events such as Christmas Party, New Year party, Chinese New Year, Eid celebrations, NewYear party, and Easter celebrations, plus occasional celebrationssuch as International Women Day, The Refugee Week, Film Seasons, and some other events.We successfully achieved the following objectives for our community, through our art and culture workshops and activities--Create a safe, supportive space for all and ideas to explore and communicate their experiences.-Nurture relationships across communities with shared skills and experiences-Enhance confidence and self-esteem and through this process, promote a greater awareness of independence and self-determination.- Develop positive attitudes towards change, through this process that helps the women reorient the ways they think about themselves and the situations in which they find themselves, releasing their capabilities to effect changes in their lives.-Help families overcome their past traumatic experience in their home country- Foster self-empowerment so that they become advocates for themselves and for others in similar situations, enabling them to fight isolation and promoting their active role in UK society.- Build trust between them and the local community.- Improving the language skill of the participants whom their English was very limited but through chatting within the group, their confidence was amazingly developed.- Integrate better into the community through finding voluntary works and encouraging to contribute with their skills and talents.- We had a chance to know their characters and interests, and that helped to offer further advise, guidance and involvements, such as, involving them in the future workshops of art and creativities.- We created a volunteer group to support each other and carry out the weekly workshops.
Culture Bridge MCR – collaborated and brought different cultures and communities to work together inStockport, Manchester and surrounding areas - were consulted many times during the year for opinionsand support around asylum-seeking families, refugees and migrants. Several meetings, workshops and artactivities were coordinated, and successfully facilitated by a group of multicultural artists and musicians.Inclusion, diversity and equality were encouraged, and successful connections were built with StockportCouncil, and many other local community groups in Manchester.Culture bridge has regularly kept the community updated on what we are doing by blogging, on socialmedia, and communicating via our WhatsApp Group, mailing list and received most feedback through thewomen, Children and families’ groups, as well as through social media pages, especially on Facebook.We continued to ask for feedback and evaluations from our workshops’ participants to be able to do coverthe most needed issues in our community.
