The last year has seen a continuation of volunteering and community engagement.Volunteers have continued to help regenerate the site and help with developing and maintaining the wildlife and vegetable gardens. They have also contributed to the building projects completed on-site this year. They have helped build a Mediterranean Garden, Installan Elsan Point for visiting boaters, and laid paving around the site.We have seen a marked improvement in the insect and bird populations due to considerate planting.
The company's stakeholders are Canal and River Trust, the City of Wolverhampton Council, Local Residents and Canal Boaters. The company has been in ongoing and active discussions with CRT and WCC as to how the company and its ethos fit within plans for local regeneration. Together a plan forward has been agreed, and it was made clear the Council and CRT would help in any way they wereable to allow the project to succeed.Engagement with our Local Councillor has enabled us to gauge the needs of Local Residents and establish lines of communication with other local community projects and institutions.Social Media, Networking Events and Community Events have allowed engagement with Local Residents and Boaters which has fed back into project ideas and given an overview of local needs.Three of our volunteers have completed their Sustrans training to become accredited walk leaders. We have had an increase in moorers at the site, who have in turn given volunteer hours to the project. We were involved in the ‘warm spaces’ initiative with Wolverhampton Council, which we incorporated with our Lunch Club. We also continue to run a Craft Club for the local community. We have been able to increase our services for the boating community, with the provision of Gas, Coal and Water, as well as Elsan and dry toilet system composting facilities. We achieved all of our planning and building aims for the year, and we were able to carry on with engaging both the local and boating communities and developing awareness of the project.
