Company activities and impact

Over the last financial year, Clothworks Glasgow has been involved in a number of education intiatives and a community arts project. April 2023 - November 2023 'Eastern Ground' project.High school studentsIt was our hope to connect young people to their local built heritage, and provide an outlet for extra-curricular creativity in the East End of Glasgow. High School students were invited to attend free, extra curricular workshops at our base in Bridgeton. Students were encouraged to connect with historic buildings and the nature found in the area. Inspiration gathered from this experience was taken into the Clothworks Glasgow C.I.C. studio and used to learn textile design, sewing techniques, natural dyeing and printmaking. These workshops were run by a range of practitioners who are specialists in their field. This site captures the work produced through those workshops and the students' final wall hangings, which were displayed as part of the Eastern Ground exhibition.April 2023 - November 2023 'Eastern Ground' project.Project AssistantWe received funds from The Holywood Trust to pay for the wages of a young person who would fill the role of Project Assistant on Eastern Ground. We worked with a young person from Dumfries and Galloway and helped her to develop her skills in sewing and pattern cutting.MEND - various dates November 2022 - December 2023We have run several free community mending classes for the general public.
