Save Hemsby Coastline (Registered number: 09359377)

Report of the Trustees
For The Year Ended 31st December 2023

The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st December 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The objectives of the charitable company are for the benefit of the community, the preservation of human life and property and for the protection of the environment, to provide, preserve, maintain and/or improve sea defences and flood protection measures in the area of Hemsby, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Significant activities
During the year no sea defence work was carried out by the charity which continued it's fundraising efforts so as to be ready to act when needed.

Public benefit
In all its activities and decision making by the trustees of the charitable company, they have taken into consideration the Charity Commissions guidance in respect of Public Benefit.

Volunteers
There are a considerable number of people who give up their time to assist Save Hemsby Coastline and enables the charity to fund raise in order to enable the charity to fund further costal defence work.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
At 31 December 2023 Save Hemsby Coastline had unrestricted funds of £36,432 (2022 £31,279).

Going concern and Covid-19
Our charity fundraising was been hit hard by Covid, as we had been unable to sell merchandise nor to place collection pots in key locations around the village. This severely impacted our income for 2021 and 2022. In 2023 we have been able to be more active with regards fundraising but have not been able to return to pre covid levels.

We have maintained and enhanced connections and communication with key stakeholders via the use of remote working technologies such as Zoom.

Progress towards our objective is slow and steady but importantly still happening.

When and if normality returns we will need to work on rebuilding our local fundraising capabilities, and while we hope for large donations in the meantime as we have low outgoing and no paid employees we are lucky to be in a financial position to continue our work.

Taking the above actions into consideration, the Trustees believe that Save Hemsby Coastline is still a going concern and the financial statements have been prepared accordingly.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.

Charity constitution
The charities constitution is as per the Memorandum and Articles of Association dated 17 December 2014 as amended by Special Resolution registered at Companies House on 29 March 2018.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
The charitable company is always looking for people who have the time and skill set to assist it in reaching it's objectives. When suitable people are identified they are invited to a meeting of the trustees where the history and future plans are discussed. It enables the trustees to get to know potential new trustees. After this meeting the trustees would hold a vote (in camera) to decide whether they are appointed as new trustees.
