Principal activities of the company

Seed of Compassion Community Outreach (SoCCO) had a successful 2023. However, we always want to do more outreaches touching lives, reducing family breakdown and poverty in the BAME community and putting smiles on people’s faces. At the beginning of 2023, we set out to provide support, awareness to families affected by contextual harm, to reduce conflict in the family home and to empower women to reduce poverty. This linked directly to our overall objectives to relieve poverty and provide support to families, women, single parent and their children within the Black and Ethnic Minority groups (BAME). This was provided through parenting seminars, provision of necessities and food to families in need, mental health awareness seminars and personal development programmes for women and those facing poverty. We started 2023 by organising a free breakfast meeting seminar titled: New Beginnings. We tackled practical issues around parenting, offering advice and tip for mothers to stay hopeful in difficult situations of parenting. Provided Insight and information around exploitation (CSE and CSE) and how to safeguard children from exploitation. Provided a networking and interactive atmosphere for mothers to share experience and learn from one another. We were also able to link mothers with similar circumstances as a form of support to one another. Furthermore, information was made available for all attendees on how and where to get long term help. Attendees were also advised that they could call and ask for help whenever the need arises. This was taken on board by some families as we were approached with request for support, and confidential support by way of family intervention was provided throughout the year. As the year progressed, we provided one to one support directly to mothers, teenagers, young adult and families. For example, we provided confidential counselling and mentoring session to families, mothers and young people. Our next project was focused on supporting families in understanding exploitation, the impact of domestic abuse on children and reducing conflict. We recognise that there was a lack of understanding in the BAME community on how to safeguard children from exploitation. As well as observing that there is a gap in services available to men who have been deemed to be perpetrators of domestic abuse. Specifically, in Black African Male, there is a lack of understanding of culture and the role this plays when providing intervention for men or boys in the BAME community. We prepared flyers for a virtual 6-12week workshops and this has been distributed to different local authorities, schools, community centres, children centre, faith groups, on social media and by word of mouth. It is important to note that this workshop is running as part of our new year 2024 projects. Furthermore, each month we joined in a monthly breakfast meeting on different life topics to empower mothers and families. Examples of life topics deliberated upon were: Investing in Financial Market, parenting in economic instability, stress management, managing difficult children and many more was practically discussed. We invited professionals and expertise to this breakfast meeting to deliver these seminars. Follow up information and resources were provided after each seminar to attendees. We link in with different professionals in different career settings, offering networking and connection to request for career advice and development. In 2023 we also provided financial support internationally to the less privileged where the need was identified. In this new year 2024, we are going to continue to work passionately with the monthly seminars, confidential counselling, workshop and courses for mothers, fathers and families empowering families in the BME community. We aim to offer continuous support to families who have experience some form of family conflict or disruption offering them a confidential space to be supported. Our theme this year is Mindful Motherhood, we will be exploring different empowering topic areas such as Defeating Procrastination with Determination, Understanding your Economic Environment and so on. We are dedicated to ensuring there is ongoing practical support offered to parents. This will allow parents feel empowered to provide a nurturing, safe environment for their children, where they feel safe and empowered to grow, achieve and be the best version of themselves. This will create a happy family, community and country.
