The Company is working towards a vision of a society where every human is celebrated for their differences. Our mission is to create a completely inclusive community where people with learning disabilities are valued and celebrated for their differences. SENDAWELCOME is building a flagship community within Bristol where neurodiversity is celebrated. We raise awareness of the issues society creates for people with learning disabilities so that all people can work together to make things better. We educate and inform and inspire our stakeholders so they are empowered and supported to make changes that benefit people not just with learning disabilities but the whole community. We make supportive connections so that people can build valued relationships that sustain in a community where people with learning disabilities are celebrated. The company became a CIC on 19th November 2021. During the financial year 2022-2023 the company has carried out the following activities and benefited the community in the following ways: We have built on the structured period of reflection of our work which enabled us to review our work and spend time producing a clear vision, mission and 5 year plan. This has enabled us to develop with a clearer vision and message. Continuing and new collaborations: - With Step & Stone our partner on the Real Work Choices (RWA) Project we have provided work experience opportunities for 10 young people with learning disabilities - Our successful bid to bring the Mencap MyCommunity project to North Bristol for 2 years to develop our area of UK as one of the best communities for disabled people with learning difficulties to live and work has brought in an additional £30,000 in seed funding grants for local projects to improve the lives of disabled people. This has included updating accessible sport equipment, therapeutic play sessions, producing a short film. - SaW was awarded a MENCAP Seed Funding grant directly grant which enabled us to establish a local Youth Club for young people age 16-25 with learning disabilities. We did this in partnership with local Adventure Playgrounds. This allowed them to build the staff skills needed and go on to take ownership of, and self fund, the youth club project. Governance: - Ensured updated policies Organisational capacity: - We were able to provide a small amount of paid project manager and director time but the majority of our work has been done on a voluntary basis. Increased our profile: - Our improved website has enabled us to convey clearer messaging to engage key stakeholders. - We have been able to pay a freelance practitioner to produce newsletters and lived experience stories to share our work. Reached more stakeholders: - Through our partnership with the MyCommunityBristol project we have been able to further expanded our stakeholder group and engage many more adults with learning disabilities. An Action Grouo has formed allowing people with learing disabilities to use their voice to express their needs and instigate action for positive change in our community. - Through the MyCommunity project we have been able to build further partnerships with other learning disability focused organisations across the city.
Clearer messaging and story telling has enabled the people we work with to better understand and engage with our mission. Better communication has engaged more people and helped them realise that SAW is a community led vehicle for positive change that they can shape and use. The MyCommunity Action group is ensuring that more disabled adults with learning difficulties are steering our work and feeling empowered to make positive change. The 5 year plan helps partners and other stakeholders understand our aims. Securing funding to provide a local youth club has given disabled young people with learning difficulties and their families impactful opportunities to engage socially, build community, have a voice, raise aspirations, be empowered to make positive change, feel optimistic about the future. Around 10 young people plus their family members have engaged across our RWC project. They have benefited directly from social and work aspiration/experience opportunities. Feedback on the impact this is having has been moving. It has made a real difference to lives. Parent/carers report that their young people are showing increased confidence and self esteem, doing new things, demonstrating new abilities, making new friends, having a voice. All these things support positive mental health and resilience.
The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £460.00 There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
