Company activities and impact

Diverse - Fitness and Wellbeing has been committed to improving the physical and mental health of young people with special needs within Sunderland, a socio-economically deprived area. During the financial year, the company has focused on the following key activities and achieved significant community benefits: Weekly Fitness Classes for Special Needs Children: Starting in January 2024, Diverse - Fitness and Wellbeing launched weekly fitness classes specifically designed for children aged 12-18 with learning disabilities. These classes aim to enhance overall fitness levels, including cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, and muscular strength. Additionally, the sessions are structured to improve social interaction among participants, offering them a space where they feel confident and supported. The classes also provide an invaluable opportunity for parents and carers to meet and build a support network, thus addressing both the physical and mental health needs of the community. Online Health, Wellbeing, and Nutrition Content: The company has actively engaged with the community through social media, posting regular content on health, wellbeing, and nutrition. Volunteer and Employment Opportunities: A 19-year-old with special needs has been volunteering at the weekly fitness classes. Partnerships and Community Engagement: Diverse - Fitness and Wellbeing has actively participated in several promotional events to raise awareness of special needs services across the North East. The company is also featured in the Rainbow Guide, a directory of special needs services within Sunderland, which has helped connect more families to their programs.
