The following activities were carried out during the year. Restoration Activities - Spindrift craned out to dry dock and a survey carried out for restoration planning. Work initially began to straighten the vessel using cold block method. - Worked with owners of historic wooden narrowboat Linnet to maintain and preserve. - Began assisting the restoration and reconstruction of heritage boat Anson with view to her being partially engaged in future community events. - Engaged in minor restoration works on historic narrowboat Ariel for her owner. - Worked with Preston Brook Wharf to restore the drystone retaining walls. - Granted use of land belonging to Bridgewater Canal Co for creating of nature reserve and heritage allotment using traditional methods. Community Activities - Participated in Heritage Open Days week with a video series on canal arts. - Put on a display at Hatton Agricultural Show alongside Daresbury District Heritage Group and Cheshire Local History Society. - Hosted a day course on the endangered Brightwork canal art at Preston Brook Wharf. - Research carried out in Cheshire Archives to find historic information and photographs for Preston Brook Wharf. - Approached by Preston Brook Parish Council to appraise the heritage and cultural value of Preston Brook, and write a report. Work in progress. Also aided the council in consultation of the proposed development in Preston Brook. - Worked with Cheshire Wildlife Trust and RECORD in recording wildlife on Preston Brook Wharf and the canal corridor. Other Activities - Worked with Heritage Crafts Association and other experts for corrections regarding the new listing of Canal Art as an endangered craft. - Began training of yearling horse Samson alongside Retired Liverpool Carters Association and Liverpool Museums.
Heatherfield CIC has consulted with the following stakeholders during the year: - The local and wider community has been engaged through the creation of new social media platforms including TikTok and the hashtag museummonday, with small videos exploring some of the objects held by Heatherfield Heritage and others. Participation in Heritage open days and Hatton Agricultural show has increased awareness by the local community of the rich history of the canal and surrounding area. - Working alongside Preston Brook Parish Council with particular focus on the heritage and cultural value of Preston Brook and through consultation on developments. - Engagement with Cheshire Wildlife Trust in the preservation of wildlife along the canal corridor. - Engaging with Heritage Crafts Association to ensure that the information surrounding the history of heritage arts is as accurate as possible.
