Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable. Turnover is reduced for estimated customer returns, rebates and other similar allowances. Specifically, revenue from the sale of goods is recognised when goods are delivered and legal title is passed.

    Other accounting policies

Grants Grants are credited to deferred income. Grants towards capital expenditure are released to the profit and loss account over the expected useful life of the assets. Grants towards revenue expenditure are released to the profit and loss account as the related expenditure is incurred.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BEYOND THE MIX C.I.C.

Company Number: 13758716 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2023

Company activities and impact

Beyond the Mix offers a space for Mixed Heritage women to connect and share. This year we have expanded this to include mixed heritage families. This was based on feedback and conversations that took place with the women in the community last year. The aim of Beyond the Mix is to empower our community members to explore their identities, share their stories and make connections. We achieve this by offering a diverse range of courses, workshops, and events across five categories: Wellbeing, Family, Identity, Business and Fun. The family strand of Beyond the Mix has grown from conversations with the women within our community around a sense of identity and how important childhood is in shaping that for many. We want to give parents an opportunity to meet new families, get support & advice and gain confidence in being allies for their children. For the children we want them to feel a sense of belonging and community and to have fun in a safe and supportive environment. This year we held: women's circles, group coaching sessions, monthly yoga classes, a guided walk, a wellness day, book clubs, socials, monthly family meet ups and picnics. Feedback includes: “It was the first time I have been part of a mixed raced group and it felt really good- hard to put into words but just super interesting and grounding and comforting but also inspiring and energising. Lots of positive things!” “It’s the first time I've ever been in an all mixed space. It felt great to finally feel a sense of belonging” “I’m almost in tears at the thought that our children can grow up in this community intentionally with adults who care for them and their wellbeing, development and sense of identity” “Feeling seen and understanding that we are raising children who may encounter different issues to what we had to grow up in. Our family is mono racial so they will often be the only mixed heritage children in our family spaces”

Consultation with stakeholders

Participants - we send electronic feedback forms after each session asking for feedback on the venue, how they felt, cost, length of course etc. At the social we have paper copies as it is more informal which ask what people would like to see from Beyond the Mix. In response to feedback we have made more of the social ‘crafty’ so that talking is not always the main focus, we have started work around mixed heritage families, extended the length of the coaching course, added a hair workshop to our schedule, started a book club and are looking at developing our area of work in training and coaching especially for the families. Facilitators - we have an informal ‘check in’ after each event. This gives us the opportunity to gain facilitator feedback on how they felt the event went. From these conversations, we have added an additional session to the coaching course, decided against doing two part courses close together and to potentially use a bigger space for the movement/ dance. Venues - the only venue which I have regular contact with is Now Studio where we hold yoga. We made the decision together to take the classes to a monthly basis. Directors - we have quarterly meetings where we discuss what has worked well/ could be improved and what we are currently working on. We have discussed the need for more work in the area of capturing teenagers as they are at a point where identity shaping can be very significant but rarely engage in outings with parents. We feel that work with schools could be beneficial in supporting this.
