Droxford Community Hub CIC (trading as Wilfrid's Cafe) continues to go from strength to strength and has been furthering its main objective: "To secure the establishment of a Community Hub and Cafe in Droxford and to maintain it and manage it as a centre for activities for the benefit of the inhabitants of Droxford Parish and neighbouring districts without discrimination of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to provide facilities or activities in the interests of social welfare, for recreation or other leisure-time and occupation with the object of improving the lives of the said inhabitants." Wilfrid's Cafe has become a thriving centre for Droxford village and the surrounding area with a justified reputation for good coffee and home baked cakes. It is open 5 regular days per week with an additional morning on the first Wednesday of the month for Wilfrid's Wednesdays offering discounted coffee for Droxford residents, preceded by Little Beans for the youngest members. The recent 5-star reviews on both TripAdvisor and Google are testament to the cafe's reputation. Some people come to work in a quiet corner, others meet friends for a coffee or tea and a chat, cyclists or walkers stop off to re-fuel and dog walkers welcome our muddy paws policy. The cafe's ability to actively support the local community is also growing and there has been collaboration with a number of different organisations including the village hall at book sales and toy swaps and the Christmas market. The cafe opened for Droxford Country Fair for the second time in 2023, thereby generating further income to contribute to the local community. Collaboration continues with the Parish Council, Droxford Junior School and the Village Hall, together with the Friends of Droxford Church and the Parochial Church Council. The cafe is a designated Warm Space and is actively involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme with young people helping out in the cafe or making cakes on a regular basis. This year a training programme for a young person between 16 and 18 years has been offered with the present incumbent becoming an invaluable member of the team. A regular Macmillan event is held each year and the Citizens' Advice, Neighbourhood Watch and Police Community Support Officer have also been welcomed as well as a surgery for local councillors. Wilfrid's Cafe goes from strength to strength under the guidance of its 7 directors, ably assisted by volunteers in a wide variety of roles, all of whom have contributed to the current trading surplus of just over £10,000 to distribute to the community.
The company's stakeholders are the residents of Droxford and visitors to the village together with local food and beverage suppliers. Funds to build the cafe were raised locally following consultation with residents of Droxford and other interested parties including South Downs National Park Authority, Hampshire County Council, Droxford Parish Council Parochial Church Council and Friends of Droxford Church. The company makes extensive use of social media for both communication and feedback including a website (www.wilfrids.org), Facebook, TripAdvisor, Instagram and WhatsApp. It also has a regular bi-monthly article in the parish magazine and sends out weekly information bulletins to volunteers. All interested parties are invited to the AGM.
