Company activities and impact

The Edinburgh Collective works to support individuals and projects within the creative scene in Edinburgh. Over the past three years, we have hosted over 50 shows and events entirely featuring Edinburgh musicians and bands, visual artists, poets, short film premieres, and more! These events are often the first performance a band has in Edinburgh before they begin to play larger stages and venues. We operate as a student and grassroots opportunity for new artists to emerge on the scene and share their work, while also receiving payment for their performances. The content and videos we create are used to promote future shows and for the performers individually; this is a significant help as the cost of professional content creation is a major barrier for new creatives.Recently, we have been working as a booking agency for organizations such as the Iris Initiative, the Good Stuff Network, and the Scottish Parliament Festival of Politics, where we represent local artists and open doors for large corporate event bookings. This work extends into the visual arts; we are growing our portfolio of local painters and sculptors, supporting and featuring their work at our events. There is also a networking and relationship aspect to our work. We began during lockdown when it was nearly impossible for artists to meet and work together. Now, through our events, we have introduced guitarists to singers (such as Luna J’s band, which is now playing major venues and has been featured on BBC Introducing), made organizational introductions that have led to ongoing partnerships (such as Canal Cruise Concerts with Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust), and created regular ‘third spaces’ for friendships and collaborations to form.
