Company activities and impact

Introduction Futur.Shock CIC is committed to supporting emerging electronic dance music artists in East London, providing them with a crucial platform to showcase their work. This financial year, the organisation has hosted a series of events with a distinctive thematic focus that has resonated deeply with the community. Community Benefits for the Financial Year During the financial year, Futur.Shock CIC has made a notable impact on the community through its activities, particularly emphasising the theme of “collective melancholy.” This season's theme explores anxiety, stress, and over-stimulation in the modern world, while delving into aspects of mental health, intimacy, and sexuality. The following points illustrate how these activities have benefited the community: Thematic Exploration of Mental Health Addressing Collective Melancholy: This season’s focus on “collective melancholy” has provided a powerful lens through which the community can engage with and reflect on contemporary issues such as anxiety and stress. By integrating themes of mental health and over-stimulation into the performances, Futur.Shock CIC has fostered important conversations and provided a space for emotional expression and support. Performance Opportunities Artist Platform: Futur.Shock CIC organised and financed three events at the East London venue, FOLD, where new electronic dance music artists performed. These performances not only allowed the artists to showcase their work but also embedded the season’s theme into their creative output, enriching the audience's experience and understanding of the issues addressed. Audience Engagement and Impact Cultural Enrichment: The events attracted several hundred attendees, offering them a unique opportunity to engage with music and themes that reflect their own experiences and concerns about mental health and modern life. This engagement has contributed to a deeper cultural dialogue within the community, making the exploration of these themes more accessible and relatable. Economic Impact Employment and Revenue: The organisation’s events created job opportunities for support staff, such as event coordinators, sound engineers, and security personnel. The revenue generated from ticket sales substantially recouped the costs of hosting the events, demonstrating the community's support for both the artistic and thematic aspects of the shows. Artist Development Exposure and Experience: By providing a platform for emerging artists to perform work that explores significant contemporary issues, Futur.Shock CIC has not only enhanced their career prospects but also contributed to their growth as artists. The thematic focus of the season has allowed these artists to engage deeply with pressing societal concerns, which can be pivotal for their future development and visibility in the industry. Conclusion Futur.Shock CIC’s activities this financial year have had a profound impact on the East London community, particularly through its exploration of the season’s theme of “collective melancholy.” By addressing anxiety, stress, and modern life challenges, the organisation has enriched the cultural landscape, fostered important discussions on mental health, and supported emerging artists. These efforts have not only benefited individual artists and audience members but have also contributed positively to the broader community’s cultural and economic vitality.
