COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

JOJAYS COMMUNITY LUNCH CLUB CIC

Company Number: 14533299 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2023

Company activities and impact

The company started running JoJays Community Lunch Club event from April 2023. These were monthly, providing a home-made, high quality, hot meal that will provide 4 of the 5-a-day recommended portions of fruit & veg, by introducing plant-based food that is high in nutrition. We also provided nutrition and diet information sheets, alongside recipe cards. This was fully funded with a £10,000 grant from the Peabody Community Fund (through The London Community Foundation). With our focus being to help the local community improve their physical health and tackle social isolation, in our first year of operation, we have been able to: Provide our meals at an accessible price for the local community; Begin educating the community on nutrition by providing recipes cards for food they can make/adapt at home, at affordable prices; Provide a safe, welcoming space where the local community can share food together and socialise; Build connections between members of the local community; Build connections with local organisations; Work jointly with local organisations to support local people in providing hot food Provide volunteering opportunities, to serve food and socialise with attendees.

Consultation with stakeholders

We operate in the centre of the Queen’s Park Ward, London, which is one of the most deprived areas within Westminster City Council. The company’s stakeholders are the local residents and attendees of JoJays Community Lunch Club events. These are people who are facing poverty, loneliness and have health concerns; encompassing a range of different people in the local community, including older residents, parents with young babies and children, and the large proportion of residents that are from the black and ethnic minority community. The directors of the company grew up, live or work in the Queen’s Park area. Seeing what was lacking in the area generated the idea for our Lunch Club events. At each event, we provide feedback forms and request attendees complete these during the event. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. They have loved the good food, are very happy with the low cost and enjoy the community spirit. We have become a regular feature and often get requests to run the Lunch Club events more often.

Directors' remuneration

The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or received by directors in respect of qualifying services was £1335.28. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the renumeration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office.

Transfer of assets

No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
