Company Number: 13023833 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2023

Company activities and impact

The company runs health and wellbeing programmes with a particular emphasis on the 5 ways to wellbeing, diet and nutrition, healthy body – healthy mind, dealing with conflict, consequential thinking and self-direction, problem solving and dealing with chaos. During the financial year 2022/23, the following communities have benefitted; We continued to deliver the project with the University of Central Lancashire to train 30 students to become Peer Mental Health Ambassadors. Our programme shows the participants how to grow a mental health toolkit to become more resilient and be better able to cope with times of chaos and deal with conflict pro-actively, focussing on a positive future situation. We deliver a practical training programme to reduce difficult personal situations that are likely to affect performance at work, affect an individuals Mental Health and impact on other colleagues. The training includes conflict resolution and peer mediation, personal strategies for a healthy work-life balance, mindfulness and meditation techniques and dealing with chaos. After completing 2 training days, we then have a ‘finishing school’ session, which is essentially the ‘advanced level’ which equips the learner with the confidence and skills to be a Peer Mental Health Ambassador and begin to pass-on their knowledge as Peer to Peer training & coaching within the university. With a successful bid to NHS Lancashire & South Cumbria – PHIF (Population Health Investment Fund), we received grant funding to deliver 3 projects in deprived communities in The West End of Morecambe, each working with established community groups / charities, and The Bay Medical Partnership to help us recruit participants – who were either parents or older people (who generally lived alone) who were struggling with the cost of fuel, food, eating healthily and these pressures were impacting their mental health. As we had proven in our work in previous years - in addition to our programme, we also delivered a cooking demo at each session, focused on how to make healthy nutritious meals from tinned and dried items generally found in a foodbank parcel. After attending the course, we gave them a Slow Cooker and printed copies of all of the recipes we had shown them. Following on the success of those 3 projects, we had another successful bid to Lancaster & District CVS – to deliver the same model as PHIF, but to another deprived area of Morecambe.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are members of the communities we work with and also the companies who contract us to deliver our programme. The directors of the company have lived in Lancashire for most of their lives – as such, the Growing Resilience CIC was formed with the aim of benefitting individuals, families and communities who are disadvantaged and/or marginalised – with a particular aim of supporting the health and wellbeing of these groups. We carry out ongoing consultation with the community groups we work with around the needs (often increasing needs) of the population they serve.
