COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

ARISING TUTORING CIC

Company Number: 13752845 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2023

Company activities and impact

Arising Learning Centre CIC’s (ART) activities during this financial year have provided education tuition support for disadvantaged pupils. The community has benefited from the provision’s activities in the following ways: Additional pupils registered and received tuition support. Delivered Drama workshops. Planned and delivered GCSE interventions. ART were part of UCL (University College London) volunteer fair which extended the opportunity to university students to become part of our team of volunteer tutors and giving back to the community. Additional volunteer tutors from the community of Hackney and Highbury and Islington joined the team, which enabled them to give back to their community and to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people. They also benefitted from training opportunities which come with the role. A number of pupils who have attended ART’s provision have received awards in recognition of their achievement and improvement. Parents have shared teacher feedback and academic reports which have reflected improvements in their child(ren)’s academic attainment levels. Pupils have gained a meaningful academic attainment level which has enabled them to move onto further education, employment or training opportunities. Tuition support has also been extended to help young offenders with preparing for functional skills and GCSE examinations exams and resits. Through the support of ART, young people in the care system and youth offending service have moved onto further education programmes, enabling them to have better opportunities for making positive decisions to progress with their lives. ART’s engagement with schools, local organisations, youth groups, social services, youth offending service, alternative provisions, parental and family early help team, has not only assisted with reaching a much wider cross section of the community but has helped us to build cohesion and strong relationships in and across communities. ART was able to deliver a specialist drama workshop which saw over 20 young people from the community participating in the programme, which was delivered at a youth theatre in London. The project provided opportunities for these young people to hone in on their acting skills, learn more about theatre and stage performance from our specialist drama practitioner, drama teacher and director. The programme was extremely successful in enabling the young participants to utilise drama as a tool for exploring and addressing issues which affect them. At the end of the programme, the young people, were cast in a full scale theatre production at the youth theatre in London. For some, this was their very first time acting on stage professionally in front of an audience. Overall, the workshop programme and theatre production were a success and left many of the participants wanting to learn more about the world of drama and theatre.

Consultation with stakeholders

ART’s stakeholders are made up of residents, organisations, groups and young people in the London Borough of Enfield, Hackney and Highbury and Islington. We carried out pupil feedback, parental feedback surveys to gage parental views on the quality of our provision and this has helped us with further identifying areas for further development. It has also helped us with seeking out ways in which we may be able to create opportunities for students to progress and develop academically as well as personally. Outside of feedback surveys there has been no consultation. ART continues to develop excellent partnership working with local schools and organisations that work with young people. We have also ensured and maintained that all volunteers maintain CPD training. As part of our compliance procedures, ART has an annual quality review carried out by Enfield Council
