COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SAFINAH COLLECTIVE CIC

Year Ending: 31 December 2023

Company activities and impact

Safinah Collective CIC is a company that aims to build an easily accessible community for young Muslim women who can develop their spirituality and community. We help to empower and provide opportunities to young Muslim women to volunteer and contribute to building the future generation of women and leaders. We are formed of volunteers delivering this community service. During the financial year 2022-2023, the companies activities have benefited the community in the following ways: For local community members, primarily in the East London area, we have provided weekly gathering groups as a meet and greet, as well as to discuss community issues and bond over light refreshments. Our sessions are attended by an average of 30 muslim women. We have hosted a weekly youth club every Sunday for school girls aged 11-16, with the aim of building their confidence, nurturing their development so they become productive members of society and help them develop meaningful friendships within as well as outside of Safinah Collective. Our youth club is able to regularly facilitate activities for up to 100 students. We have hosted two annual conferences in January 2023 and April 2023, providing opportunities for young muslim women across London to come together for a day of networking and receive beneficial reminders in personal and spiritual development. Each conference was attended by 200-300 women and girls. We have hosted a two week summer school in August 2023 for 100 secondary school aged girls with structured teaching, trips and community development activities. We have trained our volunteers in essential skills of Safeguarding and First Aid. We have offered regular weekly self development classes and monthly training courses for our volunteers. We have helped to upskill young Muslim women in the following areas: Organising events/stewarding, Research skills, Public/motivational speaking, Multi- media, Fundraising, Leadership and Mentoring.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are primary young muslim women and girls in the UK, particularly London, who are in education and/or employment, seeking to connect with their religion and take ownership of their Muslim identity. We regularly take feedback from attendees and engaged stakeholders on their satisfaction with our services, the learning they receive in our regular classes and needs they feel are important for us to address. We have hosted focus groups, made up of general attendees as well as volunteers, to identify how to develop our services. Our research has enabled us to identify key issues within the young Muslim population i.e. loneliness, lack of confidence, loss of spirituality. We have used this information to expand on our regular gathering circles, to establish a regular youth club as well as to tailor a curriculum for our volunteer self development classes.
