COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

VIV GORDON COMPANY CIC

Company Number: 13089221 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2023

Company activities and impact

Viv Gordon Company works as a CSA survivor-led arts and social justice organization, to build voice, visibility, community and cultural leadership by and with survivors of child sexual abuse, aged 14+ 2023 has represented a significant growth in our organization, due to the start of the Home Office funded, national partnership project, UpFront Survivors, with SARSAS, The Greenhouse and Coventry University. This award was announced in December 2022, and Viv Gordon Company led the design and delivery on the programme throughout 2023 (the programme runs until March 2025). This is a significant investment for our work as a survivor-led organization, working alongside Frontline services, to develop a range of cultural offers that interlink to offer a range of access routes, for our community of survivors and allies. This included the world's first CSA survivor-led cultural spaces, created by our community for our community to gather as community in a creative and cultural environment. More about the project can be found on our website: www.vivgordoncompany.co.uk/upfront-survivors Alongside UpFront Survivors we were able to extend our existing project 'An ABC of CSA: finding the words to talk about child sexual abuse' (a series of A-Z cards co-created with over 40 survivors) to include an event and creative workshop series in Exeter to launch the cards, investing some of the Home Office funds to deliver the events. The cards themselves were completed in early 2023, after investment from a range of sources in 2022, culminating in Feb 2023 as part of 'Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week'. The card packs are the first product Viv Gordon Company has developed, and they will continue to be sold to survivors and support/frontline service professionals to support better conversations about CSA. This event series was supported by our survivor community steering group, funded by Awards for All as a leadership development opportunity. More information about the cards and the project creation can be found on our website here: www.vivgordoncompany.co.uk/an-abc-of-csa In 2023, we were also commissioned to develop a series of short films, under the branding 'Plain Sight'. Plain Sight is a creative research project designed to challenge harmful attitudes that exist in society about adult survivors of child sexual abuse. We worked with Dr. Alison McKinlay from the Research Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology at University College London to understand what needs to change in terms of how CSA survivors are thought about and talked about in the UK today. This began with a creative survey for CSA survivors to answer, and Viv Gordon took the research findings to draw out some key themes, which were creativity translated into scripts for 4 short monologue films. More info on the project can be found on our website here: www.vivgordoncompany.co.uk/plain-sight We were also successful in Arts Council England funding to further develop our punk-music inspired project 'Restless'. The funding enabled us to develop an initial set of 8 tracks, with a team of composers and musicians, and perform a 'work in progress sharing' performance at Lost Horizons music venue in Bristol, October 2023. In addition to cash investment, this project received significant support in kind from 101 Outdoor Arts and Morley College, who hosted the development weeks of the work in their exceptional creation facilities. We also hosted a Community Day in Devon, in September 2023, to gather as a community and respond to some of the themes of Restless; connecting to the sea, landscape, our community and our experiences as survivors, which was also supported financially by Devon Community Foundation. This event was also supported by our aforementioned survivor community steering group. More information on our website here: www.vivgordoncompany.co.uk/restless Alongside our larger projects, we continue to deliver creative workshops and professional training to a range of groups, and develop the company business model, processes, knowledge and plans to future-proof our organisation.
