Retreat 2 Rebirth (R2R) is a Leeds-based African Creative Arts, Health & Well-being organisation which aims to celebrate the diversity of perspectives and experiences of African diaspora communities which live in and around the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire. It was registered in August 2022 and operates as an Artists Collective. R2R’s flagship creative programme is the annual Leeds International African Arts Festival (LIAAF www.liaaf.co.uk ), a multi-disciplinary week-long festival which was established to: - Showcase and support the creative development of emerging multidisciplinary artists and creatives from African diaspora communities in West Yorkshire, helping to encourage the development of a diverse creative sector in Leeds. - Support international African artists and creatives through capacity building, collaboration, and co-creation opportunities, stimulating international cultural exchange between the African continent and the city of Leeds. - Promote and support opportunities for health & wellbeing improvement through an increase of cultural activities and community engagement initiatives. - Create and provide learning opportunities for the African diaspora and wider communities of Leeds by collating and sharing knowledge, fostering and producing innovative cultural experiences which centre African cultures and contemporary arts.
We record participation numbers with sign-in sheets at each session, and participants can complete an optional, anonymous monitoring form when they first join, which captures demographics. We record the impact of sessions on participants in three ways: 1.Questionnaires that can be completed in writing or verbally. 2. Noting down anecdotal feedback/quotes. 3. Taking photos/gathering vox pops. We will also ask volunteers to give feedback, and sessional artists will complete a short, written report. Full permissions will be sought where required.
