Balance sheet statements

For the year ending 31 December 2023 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

These accounts have been prepared and delivered in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime.

The directors have chosen not to file a copy of the company's profit and loss account.

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes. Turnover represents amounts receivable for services rendered during the year. Events, visit and other similar income is recognised when the related event, visit or activity is held. Income received in respect of childcare services is recognised as the services are provided. Grant income is recognised when all conditions related to the grant have been met and the funds are received.

    Other accounting policies

    Taxation The company is not subject to corporation tax as it is a not-for-profit organisation, operating for the benefit of the local community. Reserves The company has determined it is appropriate to hold at least six months operating expenditure as its reserves, and aims to retain this level of funding at any given time.

Company activities and impact

In 2023 we were delighted to welcome some 800 people to our spring fair as well as around 600 to our harvest fair and bonfire night events. During the year we improved our storage infrastructure and built a new shed. We continued to arrange collection of surplus vegetables from the whole allotment site to be donated to Family Food Action. We were also pleased to be able to run five separate days for children with SEND and their siblings and continued to operate our three afterschool clubs and the holiday play scheme and two toddler groups. Our volunteering days remain well attended busy and well attended.

Consultation with stakeholders

We continue to hold volunteer meetings every 3 months so our users can have a say in the running of the garden.

Directors' remuneration

One director received fees totalling £29,236 for the year in respect of services provided to the company. There are no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, nor compensation for loss of office, which require disclosure.

No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
