Company activities and impact

Keep The Drums And Lose The Knife (KDLK) is a community interest company based in Southwark. KDLK provide support to FGM survivors as well as capacity building to frontline professionals on how best to engage with the issues of FGM, forced marriage and child marriage across practising communities. We are a survivor’s led organisation who use it’s own personal experiences as survivors of FGM to educate communities and professional across England and Wales. In October 2019, we coordinated six months workshop programmes specifically for survivors of FGM over a six month period, forth nightly sessions of groups discussion took place between survivors. Ne of the main aims was to create a network of support in order to mitigate feelings of isolation. Survivors were encouraged to share their experiences, to draw connections between and support another in understanding that they are not alone in their trauma caused by FGM. These vital sources of connection were temporarily put on hold due to the pandemic while our efforts became directed to developing a Crisis Response Programme; its aim is to meet the immediate needs of those at risk of food poverty amongst the refugees ANS ASYLUM SEEKERS in our Southwark communities. Our crisis programme has been in operation since the 6th of May 2020. In the first month of operation we allocated 97 vouchers to mothers with young children, elderly residents and young men.

Consultation with stakeholders

The stakeholders are: victims of FGM, victims of forced marriage, victims of child marriage, local government, refugees and asylum seekers, funders, volunteers, directors.... We consulted stakeholders during our workshops attendees and asked for feedbacks. We received feedbacks to improve our services, improve our service offering and victim support.
