Directors' report period ended 31 January 2024

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 January 2024

Principal activities of the company

Pride Wide CIC formed in 2023. We were originally registered as Pride Wide Limited while we created the CIC. Our purpose is to benefit the public by creating: A better understanding of the lives of LGBTQI+ people in the general population, shifting public opinion in favour of LGBTQI+ inclusion. The provision of information to empower LGBTQI+ people around their freedom, equality, inclusion, visibility, health and wellbeing. Better and more informed discussion about LGBTQI+ people, issues and needs in all areas of life including among organisations, businesses and decision makers. Greater skills among people communicating about the LGBTQI+ community, including journalists and content creators and campaigners. The promotion of unity and mutual respect within the LGBTQI+ community and between LGBTQI+ people and wider society. In 2023, our activities were limited as we were focused on setting up the organisation. However, we carried out a joint project, fully sponsored by Barefoot Wine (EJ Gallo). This included conducting a survey of over 1,000 people on the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people holding hands in public, how this made them feel and the barriers they faced in doing so (for example, experiencing hatred or abuse). We used this activity to generate social media outputs, including via social media influencers and publicity in the LGBTQIA+ media. This raised the issue in a relatable way for people and generated a reach of at least 5million impressions. Meanwhile, Pride Wide CIC also supported the directors as they went about establishing Pride Wide Trust as a charity in England and Wales. This involved a significant amount of work to prepare our application for the Charity Commission. Our application to the Charity Commission was filed on 8 December 2023 and we eventually achieved charity status for Pride Wide Trust in June 2024.

Political and charitable donations

We made no donations to political organisations or to charities.

Consultation with stakeholders

As we have established Pride Wide CIC and worked to establish Pride Wide Trust, we have engaged stakeholders from the LGBTQIA+ community in the UK and around the world These have included philanthropic partners, business leaders (particularly those with an interest in LGBTQIA+ diversity and inclusion efforts), and a variety of charities and LGBTQIA+ campaigners. For the most part, this has been in the form of one-to-one conversations either online or in person, mostly for an hour in duration. These have focused on the need for Pride Wide CIC and Pride Wide Trust, current LGBTQIA+ community needs, and our various strategies and plans to make positive change. In the period ending January 2024, we estimate we have had such conversations with over 400 people. In many cases, we had multiple such conversations with these people. Pride Wide CIC only had two, formal directors who were the organisation's founders. However, we kept the board of trustees of the future Pride Wide Trust and informal advisory boards of volunteer stakeholders informed of our activities and progress. We held two major in-person networking events in 2023, both with around 60 people attending, where we were able to inform stakeholders about our activities and plans and seek feedback in direct conversations with them during the events. Meanwhile, our survey of over 1,000 people for our hand holding campaign allowed us to discuss community needs and experiences. Notably, the social media feedback on the campaign achieved an unusually high level of positive sentiment.

Directors' remuneration

The two directors received a total of £45,063.50 for the 13 months from 1 January 2023 to 31 January 2024. The directors had agreed with the trustees of Pride Wide Trust that their remuneration package should be £60,000 per director per annum in this period. However, the directors agreed that the balancing amount of £84,936.50 should be paid in the future, when company funds allow. This has been included in our accounts as a liability falling due within five years. The directors received no other remuneration, compensation or benefits.
