BRAAIN helps parents and carers of special needs children and young people to navigate their way through the diagnosis process. From noticing potential autistic traits to enquiring about diagnosis to diagnosis and beyond. BRAAIN offers a comprehensive website packed full of organisations that can support and help parents/carers. We also run a monthly support group for our local parents/carers. This is a popular group that has been running for several years now. We run an information line. The information line supports any parent or carer in Hampshire that thinks their child may be autistic right though the diagnosis process. Parents/carers can book an appointment for a member of BRAAIN to call them to discuss where they can find the right support for their family. BRAAIN has been running an information line since last May (2022). The information line provides Hampshire parents/carers with the following: - Specific information on special needs events/support and services - All information provided to the parent/carer is researched and up to date. The BRAAIN information line will talk through the support available over the telephone and then follow up with an email detailing everything that was discussed during the call -The service can support any parent/carer wherever they are in their diagnosis journey. BRAAIN can talk through the diagnosis process specific to where they live as well as other support available throughout the diagnosis process. - In addition to sharing the support and services available to parents/carers, we also share details of SEN specific social activities. This is so important as being a SEN parent/carer can be isolating, knowing about specific social activities can provide much needed peer support. This year to 28th Feb 2024 we have delivered the following: Spoken to 73 people via the information line. Liaised with 71 people via email enquiries We believe that it’s not only the caller that benefits from the information line but the whole household. The total number of people in the households we supported via telephone was 275. Support Group Held 11 support groups with 42 attendees over the year. The support group is for parents of children with special needs. At the end of last year we were commissioned to work on a new project to improve the support for autistic children in mainstream school. This project will be delivered within the next financial year.
