Cynefin farm CIC runs permaculture education in our local community of Pembrokeshire. The business opened in December 2022 (originally under the name of Paramaethu Tirlun) and during the financial year 2022-2023, we benefitted the community in a number of ways: - We hosted and facilitated a 6 month long Permaculture Design course, which taught regenerative growing and living techniques to 12 local residents. We invited participants on a sliding scale cost basis, which enabled us to offer some very low cost places on the course for those that needed it, improving accessibility of the education. - We also offered three places on the course fully subsidised, on an exchange of skills basis, for those that could not join us otherwise. - We emphasised connection in the community and beyond, making connections with other local smallholders and land based businesses through site visits and inviting guest teachers. - we continued supporting our students after the course through online content and meetings.
Cynefin farm CIC's stakeholders are our local community who are interested in regenerative living and sustainability. In the months leading up to the 6 month course that we ran back in 2023, two directors (Neil Kingsnorth and Niamhue Robins) both attended local events that attracted members of our community with similar interests - nature based open days - and gave short talks and presentations on what permaculture is and how it could support them in their lives. We then gauged interest from our community and asked what the limiting factors might be to taking further education. There was a great interest in further education, but a main limiting factor was the cost involved in such a course. We then devised a sliding scale price structure and a series of exchange possibilities so that we could enable more people to join the course.
Two directors received wages for their time in facilitation and teaching, and a repayment for course expenses. - Neil kingsnorth received £1366.70 in wages, and £63.35 in expenses repayment - Nim Robins recieved £1366.70 in wages, and £83.25 in expenses repayment.
