Directors’ Report for period February 1st 2023 to January 31st 2024 (Some of which can be found in the CIC annual report) Funding for this financial year has proven to be quite difficult, with just over £4000 coming in via donations. The funds this year have been used to purchase more equipment and safety gear, and also cover the insurance, maintenance and fuel costs for the boat, and help towards the maintenance and fuel for the van. Funds have also gone towards travel expenses and subsistence for the team. The volunteer team have also attended various events throughout the year, using these to highlight the marine plastics issue, engage and educate the general public, using those opportunities to raise funds. CJC has a new interactive display, which helps with engagement. CJC has again removed over 4000kg of plastic from the coastline of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site between January 1st 2023 and December 31st 2024. By doing this, the team of volunteers have continued to help make the Jurassic Coast a safer and much nicer place to visit. CJC continues to successfully work alongside other groups and organisations. As always, the majority of the plastic removed from the coastline has been recycled through Keep Britain Tidy’s Ocean Recovery Project to be made into outdoor furniture. Recycled plastics include fishing net, rope and all hard plastics such as bottles and plastic containers. Other items found have, where possible, been given away for reuse (lobster pots and buoys). Further collaborations with the Ocean Recovery Project have included collecting broken body-boards for recycling. Throughout 2023 CJC continued to remove unsightly and potentially dangerous plastics, which can be a hazard to swimmers, dogs and local wildlife. The educational side of things hasn’t quite gone to plan, due to losing the use of a boat as a classroom, and also the volunteers having other commitments. Plans are in place for the 2024 season though. CJC has a great relationship with Portland Marina, and they will let us use office space as a classroom. The Future. For year 4 we hope to continue applying for funding to enable CJC to expand and grow the educational side. There were no political or charitable donations made by CJC CJC is open to everybody regardless of ability, race or religion.
