COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

AUBERGINE CAFE AND EVENTS C.I.C.

Company Number: 11567212 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 September 2023

Company activities and impact

Aubergine Cafe faced a number of challenges including being threatened with a rent increase on our old premises. After a campaign to save the cafe the decision was reached to move premises. The cafe opened again in August 2023 in Cathays Community Centre. At its peak, the campaign brought over 100 people to the cafe for sign making and show of support. This shows that our work and mission is extremely important to many people with many more showing support online. We continued to employ autistic and neurodivergent adults and offer valuable volunteering opportunities to our community. Our campaign has allowed us to connect to many other organisations in the area and strengthen previous connections. Our work continuously helps reduce loneliness and isolation, giving neurodivergent people a safe space to create, meet up and just exist.

Consultation with stakeholders

Aubergine CIC was set up to create a community for autistic people, as well as people from other marginalised communities such as BAME or LGBTQ to have a safe space to socialise, eat and be creative. We have crowdfunded money from the community, who have become major stakeholders in this. We communicate with them mainly via social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and Twitter to update them on our activities, and encourage community involvement while gathering feedback through comments, messages, online polls and questionnaires for us to implement in developing future events. We have expanded our reach to include neurodivergent (including Autistic, ADD/ADHD, Dylexic, Dyspraxic, Dyscalculic etc) people and updated the language we use to better reflect the language used by the communities we serve. We give our wholly neurodivergent staff and volunteers the opportunity to take part in decision making and value their input and feedback on our activities. Staff and volunteers take part in meetings with directors and share their thoughts with us. We endeavour to encourage open communication by modelling positive and productive interactions and creating a learning environment where it is safe to make mistakes (and learn from them) and everyone is able to contribute if they want to.

Directors' remuneration

The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £21,600.

Transfer of assets

No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
