Services Provided 1. Confidential Support and Counseling: We offer personalized, one-on-one counseling with trained professionals specializing in HBA, forced marriage, and FGM. This service provides a safe space where victims can discuss their experiences and begin their recovery journey. 2. Advocacy and Legal Support: Our team collaborates with legal experts to provide essential support, including help with restraining orders, immigration advice, and legal representation. This service ensures that victims receive the protection they need to navigate complex legal challenges. 3. Emergency Housing Assistance: In partnership with local shelters and housing organizations, we provide immediate, safe accommodations for those fleeing abusive environments. This includes emergency accommodation through our dedicated BME refuge, which offers culturally sensitive support tailored to the unique needs of BME women and their families. 4. Educational Workshops and Awareness Campaigns We conduct nationwide workshops and awareness campaigns to educate communities about honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and FGM. These initiatives are vital in breaking the silence around these issues and encouraging more victims to seek help. 5.Training for Professionals Our training programs are designed for professionals such as social workers, educators, and law enforcement. These sessions equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to identify and respond to cases of HBA, forced marriage, and FGM effectively.
Our key stakeholders include Cleveland, Durham and North Yorkshire Police in relation to commissioned services and improvements identified through operational policing. We have engaged all North East police forces in the work of the Police Supercomplaint - 'Invisible Survivors - The Long Wait for Justice' report upheld by the HMICFRS. The National Lottery fund are our key partners where we are funded to deliver a 3 year programme in implementing a blue-print approach to BME victim service model. The aim of this BME community led project has been informed and by survivors and is developed to create, evolve, and embed a blueprint for the required safeguarding response to male violence against Black and Minority Ethnic Women and girls, including those from migrant communities who have No Recourse to Public Funds. Our new programme of work builds on the knowledge, information and data which highlights the need to ensure BME women at risk of abuse can uphold their rights and receive the support they duly deserve. We engage with a range of Universities and colleges, namely Metropolitan University of Manchester, Lancashire, York, Teesside and Bloomsbury Group in the delivery of the Halo University Hubs. The primary aim of the Halo Hub, highlighted by Durham University, is: "To inform others of these human rights violations that take place in Britain, which are often neglected by both the media and the government due to their taboo nature. We achieve this through campaigning, holding events and producing media material, to spread the message consistently and through different forms thus reaching as wide an audience as possible.” Our student-led programmes also provide employability and volunteering opportunities, our employability project with DWP continues to provide early intervention and access support for BME women ready for employability. Consultation with communities remains a key priority, we are engaging with new and emerging communities and have received an increase of referrals from GRT communities, our purpose remains to ensure we understand and deliver victims services with multiple needs and intersectionality is paramount in our victim service model and delivery.
