Company activities and impact

The company runs low-cost and free ESOL lessons for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. It also refurbishes donated bicycles and passes them on to refugees and asylum seekers. During the financial year 2023, the company’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: - Refugees, asylum seekers and migrants (particularly those who are unable to access other provision, such as women with young children) have been able to attend two ESOL sessions a week and to achieve measurable progress in English. - About 20 refugees and asylum seekers have been provided with a bicycle and help to maintain the bike when normal issues arose.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are refugees, asylum seekers and migrants living in Weston-super-Mare. The directors of the company have lived in the town for about ten years and have volunteered for Refugees Welcome North Somerset (RWNS) since 2018. RWNS and the Refugee Resettlement team of North Somerset Council may also be considered stakeholders. We regularly ask ESOL students for feedback and tailor the classes to match the needs of attendees, for example by adding new groups at higher or lower levels of English. RWNS and the Resettlement Team make referrals and say that mutual clients report satisfaction with the services of the company. The Resettlement Team have commissioned the company to deliver ESOL classes to specific client groups.
