We provide opportunities for people to engage with local heritage and the local environment. We believe that an appreciation of history and the natural world gives us a sense of who we are, and that this is fundamental to our well-being. We set up the CIC in 2023 to begin projects that would make a difference to people’s lives. Ongoing Projects : Weekly Cetacean and Marine Mammal Sea-watches The sea watches have run every week since the summer have been a dedicated way of changing the nature of what people think when they stand on the cliff looking out to sea. We’ve discovered a colony of 38 grey seals living under Bomber Command. We have trained volunteers to lead the sessions and we usually have a mix of local people and tourists attending. Beachy Head Shipwreck Research Project The Shipwreck Project in spring with a call for volunteers who could help us research some of the 320+ known shipwrecks off Beachy Head. So far around 30 people have been involved with a core team of 10 volunteer researchers and a database manager who is also a volunteer. When we have the funds available, we offer talks and enrichment activities for the research time, Communications from the Headland Project This project has been carried out with the help of the Changing Chalk Project and an incredible team of 10 -15 volunteers who have been out in all weathers over the autumn and winter. We have carried out a geophysics survey and a photographic survey of the headland archaeology, and we are working on the written reports and publications.
Visitors to Beachy Head Whether local or from abroad this is our biggest community. We constantly ask for feedback and much is recorded in the Visitor Book of the Beachy Head Story. We have many repeat visitors particularly for our Dolphin watches ESCC – Public Health We communicate with public health on a regular basis regarding suicide prevention and training National Trust – Changing Chalk Project We have asked for feedback from our partners at the NT and we have been gathering data from the volunteers throughout the project Natural England/Eastbourne Borough Council As the body responsible for the Beachy Head SSSI and the landowners respectively we are in contact regarding permissions to carry out surveys and events on sensitive or potentially dangerous areas. Sussex Dolphin Project We update the SDP after each landwatch and have collaborated on marketing and on potential events in the future
