- During 2023, 1731 members of the Plymouth workforce (and beyond) have participated in trauma informed practice training. Much of this is delivered to a multi-agency children’s safeguarding audience as a one-day introduction to Trauma Informed Approaches but there is also a well-attended ‘Secondary and Vicarious Trauma’ training option which is well attended. The Network continues to deliver single-agency in-house sessions to support organisations on their journey towards becoming more trauma informed. These are place based in Plymouth but are also requested from broader regional agencies. The Trauma Informed Plymouth Network is leading the way in promoting its vision for becoming a trauma informed city in line with its key document – Envisioning Plymouth as a Trauma Informed City. The Network is developing key partnerships to coproduce and collaborate on broader projects around training and workforce development. - We held our AGM in November 2023. At this time the Board had become a group of 6 with some movement in and out of this group’s number since CIC establishment. 8 Network members expressed interest in joining the Board of Directors which will be explored further early in 2024. - The Network Co-ordination role adapted to the needs of the organisation with 2 staff working over 6 days in that now part time role. The transition period for this new arrangement did result in less days of co-ordination for a period of time and this reduced some of the previous activity around hosting guest speakers which was not a feature of the Network’s work this year. - The Network website continues to increases the visibility & accessibility of the work of the Trauma Informed Plymouth Network and is an effective gateway through which enquiries, requests for training and engagement and new membership comes.
Our stakeholders are our members. Since launching our website in November 2022, our membership has risen exponentially with just over 900 members at the point of AGM. Formal consultation through a membership survey was undertaken in 2023 because the Trauma Informed Plymouth Network is led by its members. This was in addition to the established protocol that any member can get in touch to make a suggestion for direction of travel for the Network, share an update with the membership, offer to deliver a guest speaker session or showcase an example of trauma informed practice. Membership consultation showed that the work and presence of the Network continues to be valued, relevant and much needed for system change but that there is a greater appetite for member events in addition to training. The consultation serves to direct the work of the next 12 months around more guest speakers, the launch of a monthly newsletter to increase a sense of connectivity and specific guest speakers and themes that the membership would like to be engaged for the Network. A piece of work to explore the make-up of the membership in the name of equity, diversity and inclusion will also stream into 2024 as a result of the richness of the membership consultation this year. We continue to have ‘branches’ of the Network – more focused groups who meet regularly to explore how areas of the sector can become more trauma informed. Branches at the end of 2023 are education, care experience, criminal justice, inclusion & resilience, workforce development and centrally, how lived experience of trauma, adversity & social injustice can shape the way services are delivered. The creation of the care experience & education ‘branches’ came directly from stakeholder requests. This group has been added to by the start of a new branch; The Plymouth Mental Health Collective, as a result of member engagement and request. This branch exists as a platform for change which seeks to improve connections, build community and capacity and leverage strengths already existing within the city of Plymouth.
