TThis report relates to the period ending 31.03.2024. The aim of the company is to benefit the community by Making recovery from addiction more visible and to reduce stigma and make recovery more socially acceptable. To show that addiction is a recoverable condition. To demonstrate that people in recovery are responsible citizens and community assets that can positively contribute to the wellbeing of those around them. To offer a growing, supportive, and active recovery community expressed in real world and online interactions and relationships. To help and assist those that access our services / events to either get or maintain a job, a home, and a positive social network. 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 Highlights Fortnightly – all year Virtual Recovery Cafe We are proud to be in the fourth year of our Virtual Recovery Cafe which started as our response to lockdown, ensuring that our community had a regular open touchpoint during such a difficult time. The group remains a regular fixture for a small group of regulars and has a supportive WhatsApp group for the regular members. We have run 26 virtual recovery cafe sessions during this period, via Zoom. These remain free to attend. April 2023 Lent blog series Throughout the lent period, we published a blog series, with daily posts centred around topics including health and wellbeing, motivation, building healthy boundaries and the importance of peer support. The blog became very popular with our Facebook community and cited by partners as an example of a fantastic free resource shared in an open forum. The blog post was so popular that we’re in the process of converting it to a book which we will publish shortly. April to June 2023 1% challenge As a team, we committed to improving 1% per day to show that small changes lead to big impact – one of the themes in our blog series. We invited our recovery community to join us which some of them did and we tracked activity throughout our Strava Community and were able to virtually support those who stayed involved throughout the three-month period. We also did this in support of our Director, Justin who was training for the Wall rat race Challenge. May to July 2023 Henley Recovery Cafe We were pleased to run three in person events in our usual venue, the Community Cafe in the centre of Henley-on-Thames. These events attract a combination of regular visitors, groups from local rehabilitation centres which we have close links with and also local people who have heard about our events on local facebook groups or by walking by and popping their head in to ask. We are always encouraged by those willing to stand up to the open mic and share their personal stories. June 2023 The Wall Rat Race Challenge Our Director Justin took on the 70-mile ultramarathon challenge throughout Hadrian’s Wall and raised an impressive £1,240 for Towards Recovery via JustGiving. The money raised went towards our general fund, to partly cover the expense of holding our physical Recovery Cafe’s in Henley. Directors Huseyin and Michelle were training partners throughout the challenge and supported the travel and logistics of the event. We shared the updates with our Facebook community who supported us throughout. September 2023 – now ongoing Recovery Stories partnership In response to the blog series, one of our friends who we profiled on our first podcast series last year launched their Recovery Stories website, partnering with people and organisations within the Recovery field to share personal stories and resources for free on an open platform. The launch was part of Recovery Month and included a series of interviews with our Director, Huseyin and a section on their website about Towards Recovery, directing people to our resources and events. October 2023 Remembrance We unfortunately lost a well-loved and very active member of our community to suicide. His best friend is also a member of our recovery community and alongside his husband, they chose to offer the option for grieving friends and family to donate to Towards Recovery. This attracted new friends and followers from the local Henley business community including The Henley Larder who kindly recognised us as a local support initiative that they would like to financially support. Funds received in David’s name were put towards our general fund to ensure that others are able to benefit from the support we were able to provide when he was still with us. December 2023 Christmas Henley Recovery Cafe We were pleased to run our very popular annual Christmas Henley Recovery Cafe get together during the Christmas week. This Christmas event always has a good turn out with people really grateful to connect with others at what can often be a difficult time for people in recovery.
The company’s stakeholders remain as: People in Recovery from addiction who connect with us online and in person. Sometimes it also includes people in active addiction who have a problem relationship with substances and in many cases, they get in touch because they are exploring ways to initiate, or re-initiate recovery. It can also be the family, friends, and others in touch with those in or seeking to initiate and/or maintain Recovery and integrate into the community. We also have contact with addiction professionals and other allied services working with those in Recovery or their families. During the period 1.4.2023 to 31.3.2024 Website During this period, we had 5,495 page views from 2,200 website users. This is a 46.6% increase in individual users compared to last year. Google analytics shows us that this increase is mainly due to the remembrance activity in October and the spike of new users comes from members of the Henley business community who then went on to run local fundraising campaigns for us. Our most regular website users are registered as based in London, Henley on Thames, Warsaw Poland, Columbus United States, Reading, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Wolverhampton and Plymouth. Social Media While our website has a wider reach – mainly due to the increased number of free resources, our social media channels have more of a local reach – attracting people who wish to connect with local services. As a result, most engaged users live in Henley-on-Thames, London, Reading, Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Bicester and Oxford. Facebook remains our most active social media channel. We allocated a small budget to a local Facebook campaign to boost our Henley Recovery Cafe promotion, resulting in an additional reach of 2,670 local Facebook users within the Oxfordshire area. We have seen a slight increase in the number of female followers 56% women vs 44% men this year in comparison to 55.8% women vs 44.2% men in the previous year. Email engagement: We have a paid subscription to Mailchimp which is a GDPR compliant email software solution – this allows us to share our news, latest event dates and resources. Our subscribed audience has an average open rate of 35% which is in line with average not for profit email open rates. We get regular feedback on existing activity and suggestions for new initiatives and approaches via the various “touch-points” we have for connecting to the people we support e.g., via Facebook, WhatsApp, Strava and during real and virtual cafes and events.
