We Are Motherly Love is a safe and non-judgmental space where parents can explore the emotions and feelings triggered by pregnancy, birth and beyond. By fostering compassion and creating authentic connections, our hope is our mums will journey through parenthood feeling heard, validated, and supported. We Are Motherly Love provided free support groups for new mums and birthing people in Leytonstone, Waltham Forest and online via Zoom. Throughout the financial year we supported 35 women across the groups, many of which attended regularly. We have helped over 10 of these women access additional therapeutic support through the NHS or privately. All of the attendees are signposted to additional resources to help them in their parenting journey, whether that is physical or mental health, activities for them and their babies or other types of wellbeing support. By the end of the financial year, many of the attendees had formed relationships with other members of the group and were spending time together outside of the weekly meet ups - reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation. The content of the groups helps normalise issues that affect new mums and birthing people which in turn reduces feelings of failure that are prevalent in this demographic.
The stakeholders of We Are Motherly Love are the attendees of the weekly meet ups. We keep them central to everything we do and carry out consultations with them in a number of formats: Annual survey - Feedback on the running of the groups, how coming has benefited them and asks for suggestions on improvements Annual Small Focus Group - We used this as a way to discuss the wording being used for our marketing and comms to ensure that We Are Motherly Love is fully inclusive. It was also an opportunity to get more qualitative feedback on how the groups run, how people discovered Motherly Love and what barriers there are to attending.
