Company activities and impact

During 2023 Nest Project CIC focused on a fishing basket willow weaving heritage project: using willow as a sustainable material we helped people learn to weave as a mindful and relaxing creative activity, but also learning local skills which have been lost. We ran heritage willow weaving workshops with refugees, deaf people and workshops with the public at events throughout the year. We attended local festivals, worked with libraries in areas of economic deprivation, and co-worked and delivered the project at a local arts centre. The project reached approximately 10,000 people as we attended the largest county fair in the country - The Royal Norfolk Show, as well as the Norfolk Makers Festival in Norwich and The OutThereFestival in Great Yarmouth. We worked with 2 schools during the year, engaging with 150 children and their families, as well as 23 schools who joined us at the Norfolk Show for drop in sessions. We worked with 25 refugees from Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Hong Kong, San Salvador and Bulgaria. We enabled 12 refugees to attend the Royal Norfolk Show and immerse themselves in local culture. During the project we encouraged and trained the deaf and refugee participants to become volunteers and 5 of them supported delivering the project at public events.
