FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2024
The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements of the company for the 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024. The Annual report serves the purposes of both a Trustees' report and a directors' report under company law. The Trustees confirm that the Annual report and financial statements of the charitable company comply with the current statutory requirements, the requirements of the charitable company's governing document and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective 1 January 2019).

Objectives and activities
l Policies and objectives
The Charity was previously known as YOLOSOMIC (You Only Live Once So Make It Count) until 17August2021 when the name was changed to Lucy and the Horseman Foundation.
The Charity would like to support the following charitable areas:
• The prevention or relief of poverty
• The advancement of education
• The advancement of religion
• The advancement of health or the saving of lives
• Relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage
• Any other charitable purposes
In setting objectives and planning for activities, the Trustees have given due consideration to general guidance published by the Charity Commission relating to public benefit, including the guidance 'Public benefit: running a charity (PB2)'.
l Strategies for achieving objectives
The company's objects are stated in wide terms and are the pursuit to charitable purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the law of England and Wales. In practice the company pursues these objects by making donations to other charities which fall within its areas of interest. The Trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the company's aims and objectives and in planning and settling grant making policies
l Activities undertaken to achieve objectives
The Charity's principal activity through the year was the provision and distribution of donations and grants to charities and selected narrow amount of individuals, and no change is envisaged in the immediate future.

Objectives and activities (continued)
l Grant-making policies
The Trustees apply the funds of the charity at their discretion and in accordance with the charitable purposes and objectives of the charity.
The Trustees consider the distribution of beneficial grants on its behalf and to make recommendations in accordance with the charitable purposes and objectives. Any decision whether to award a grant remains solely the responsibility of the Trustees.
The amount of work or number of projects that can be supported by the Trustees is necessarily limited to the amount of funds that are available for distribution each year. The Trustees have determined that the current priorities for funding are:
• The advancement of the Christian faith within local communities and across the world - the provision of places of worship, raising awareness and understanding of religious beliefs and practices, carrying out religious devotional acts, carrying out missionary and outreach work.
• The relief of poverty within local communities and among the world’s deprived and needy peoples, with particular focus on Kent or as determined by the trustees from time to time and in accordance with this policy;
• The advancement of education - this means to promote, sustain and increase individual and collective
knowledge and understanding of specific areas of study, skills and expertise.
The priorities for support will be reviewed by the Trustees every one year and may be changed depending upon circumstances and the perceived effectiveness of the application of funds. Any change to these priorities must still fulfil the charitable purpose and objectives of the charity.
The decision of the Trustees on whether to award a grant is final. The Trustees are not obliged to provide an explanation to applicants in the event that their application is not successful.
l Main activities undertaken to further the company's purposes for the public benefit
The Charity's principal activity through the year was the provision and distribution of donations and grants to charities and selected narrow amount of individuals, and no change is envisaged in the immediate future.
Achievements and performance
l Main achievements of the company
Establishing Lucy and the Horseman Foundation (formerly YOLOSOMIC) was motivated by a few factors; firstly our Christian faith and desire to see those in our community who are in need given assistance and dignity, secondly our own challenges with our special needs daughter and also watching close family members and friends struggle with life threatening illnesses and the impact this has on their family, and finally our belief in the importance of education and training as well as assistance through support groups and other specialised charities and the valuable role this plays in improving lives.
In July 2018, our daughter Lucy Jung was diagnosed with an incurable rare cancer which she fought courageously and without complaint for 2 years until she passed away in July 2020, aged 12. Lucy means Bringer of Light and she was a Warrior; Brave and Irrestitible. There were various challenges she faced during her brief life and these experiences have taught us so much on determination, endurance, adventure, sense of humour, value and worth and contentment.

Achievements and performance (continued)
l Review of activities
During the year the Charity continued its philanthropic activities, even in a small way, in support of religious institutions and poverty relief as follows:
• Jubilee Church (charity no. 1168027) is a charity which give significant finance into both local and international projects. Locally these projects include providing food parcels to those in need within the Maidstone area, once a month putting on a 2-3 course banquet for the homeless, outings for the elderly who would otherwise not have social interaction, activities and events for women at a local women's shelter, engaging with the youth.
• Internationally projects include Happy Feet, which provides new school shoes for children in extreme poverty in South Africa, sponsoring orphans in the Ukraine for their daily care and education.
• This year we have also supported a couple of individuals who have faced a financial shortfall making life difficult or recovering from a long term illness.
Financial review
l Going concern
After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the company has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements. Further details regarding the adoption of the going concern basis can be found in the accounting policies.
l Reserves policy
The Trustees consider it is essential to maintain a substantial level of reserves to ensure funds are always available to meet their charitable and other commitments.
l Principal funding
The Charity is greatful for the corporate donors that donated a total of £12,195 (2022: £18,400) during the year.
Structure, governance and management
l Constitution
Lucy and the Horseman Foundation is registered as a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee and was set up by a Memorandum of Association on 25 August 2015. Originally the Charity was incorporated as YOLOSOMIC and operated under that name until 17 August 2021 when a change of name was filed with Companies House.
The Charity's objects are specifically restricted to further such purposes which are regarded as exclusively charitable under the laws of England and Wales as the trustees from time to time think fit.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

Lucy and the Horseman Foundation (previously known as YOLOSOMIC until 17 August 2021) was setup on 25 August 2015 as a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee and applied for registration with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 4 July 2016.
The registered address is 28 Harrow Way, Maidstone, Kent, ME14 5TU.
2.Accounting policies
|
|
Basis of preparation of financial statements
|
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) - Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006.
Lucy and the Horseman Foundation meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy.
All income is recognised once the company has entitlement to the income, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.
Income tax recoverable in relation to investment income is recognised at the time the investment income is receivable.
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefit to a third party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is classified by activity. The costs of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared costs, including support costs involved in undertaking each activity. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs which contribute to more than one activity and support costs which are not attributable to a single activity are apportioned between those activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. Central staff costs are allocated on the basis of time spent, and depreciation charges allocated on the portion of the asset’s use.
Expenditure on charitable activities is incurred on directly undertaking the activities which further the company's objectives, as well as any associated support costs.
Grants payable are charged in the year when the offer is made except in those cases where the offer is conditional, such grants being recognised as expenditure when the conditions attaching are fulfilled. Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end are noted as a commitment, but not accrued as expenditure.
All expenditure is inclusive of irrecoverable VAT.

2.Accounting policies (continued)
Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured reliably by the company; this is normally upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the institution with whom the funds are deposited.
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount after any trade discount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.
Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short-term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.
|
|
Liabilities and provisions
|
Liabilities are recognised when there is an obligation at the Balance sheet date as a result of a past event, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount of the settlement can be estimated reliably.
The company only has financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic financial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and subsequently measured at their settlement value with the exception of bank loans which are subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method.
General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the company and which have not been designated for other purposes.
Investment income, gains and losses are allocated to the appropriate fund.
