Company activities and impact

In this financial year, the Ukrainian Students Union (USU) demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering academic and professional development among its members, while also contributing significantly to the broader community. USU's flagship initiative, the Global Talent internship program, returned to Brussels, where two exceptional candidates were selected from a pool of 200 students. Their internships at the Council of Europe and the European Parliament not only provided them with invaluable experience but also earned praise for being the strongest cohort in the program's history. This achievement underscores the program's role in preparing future leaders. USU's collaboration with IBM through a mentorship scheme provided students with direct exposure to industry professionals, culminating in a celebratory event at IBM HQ. This partnership not only enhanced the mentees' professional growth but also strengthened ties with one of the world's leading companies, ensuring ongoing support for future mentorship tracks. The USU also played a crucial role in commemorating the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, organizing a flash mob titled "War is Still Going On." This initiative, supported by university societies across Europe and the UK, aimed to raise awareness of the ongoing conflict and foster solidarity with Ukraine. New internship opportunities were also established with DataArt, a leader in enterprise software development, and Midas Solutions, focusing on blockchain projects. These programs allowed students to hone their skills in market analysis, data research, and cutting-edge technology, further enhancing their employability in competitive industries. Additionally, USU made strides in expanding its global presence by initiating discussions with the US Senate for a potential internship program, though this was postponed until after the elections. The USU Global division successfully engaged societies in France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, and Italy, expanding its reach and influence across Europe. USU's commitment to academic and community engagement was exemplified by the successful USU Scotland Conference, where students, diplomats, and academics came together to discuss Ukraine's reconstruction and peacebuilding efforts. This event, along with other initiatives like the Southwest Conference in Exeter and the "On the Road to NATO Washington Summit" at the British Academy, highlighted USU's role as a platform for critical discourse and international collaboration. In summary, USU's activities in 2024 not only advanced the professional and academic development of its members but also made a meaningful impact on the broader community by promoting awareness, solidarity, and opportunities for future growth. The union’s efforts have set a strong foundation for continued success and expansion in the years to come.

Consultation with stakeholders

USU identifies its stakeholders as including students, university societies, academic institutions, trustees, corporate partners, and broader community groups affected by our activities. Regular consultations with these stakeholders are vital to our operations and strategic direction. Throughout the year, USU has held regular meetings with both the internal team and the Board of Trustees to address short-term tactical questions and long-term strategic development. These consultations have allowed us to gather feedback on ongoing programs and initiatives, ensuring they align with the needs and expectations of our stakeholders. Moreover, we have actively engaged with our societies and the feedback from these engagements has been instrumental in refining our programs and events to better serve our students and partners. In response to the feedback received, USU has made several adjustments, including expanding mentorship opportunities, enhancing the scope of our internship offerings, and increasing the frequency of our stakeholder meetings to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with our stakeholders' needs.
