In the financial year beginning on 1 December 2022 and ending on 30 November 2023, UK Lithuanian Youth Association C.I.C (UKLYA) continued organising virtual and physical educational and professional or social networking activities for young individuals of Lithuanian descent in the United Kingdom (UK), promoting Lithuanian culture and sharing information on current affairs in Lithuania with Lithuanian youth communities in the UK and elsewhere. In this year, UKLYA organised: - JK Lietuviu jaunuju mokslininku konferencija (Eng. UK Lithuanian Youth scientist conference). An event held in Edinburgh, Scotland with the aim of allowing Lithuanian students in the UK (undertaking PhD studies) to present their area of study and research. Attracting more than 25 people, it was one of the most successful events of the year, as it allowed not only for people to hear fascinating areas of research done by fellow Lithuanians, but also allowed students to present their work and field of expertise/research. - A virtual careers fair called “Karjeros Muge”. The main goal of this event was to increase the awareness of all the career opportunities available for youth in Lithuania. UKLYA attracted more than 150 students across the UK and connected them with more than 15 companies working across various different fields (mainly IT and finance companies) in Lithuania. Such an event allowed Lithuanian Youth in the UK to better understand all the career capabilities and opportunities that are available for them back in Lithuania and to network with potential future employers. It was considered a highly successful event not only due to the number of attendees, but also because of high profile companies which attended, such as Nasdaq, Deloitte, Vinted, KPMG and others. The event was held for a half a day on a virtual meeting platform called Gather. - Annual association meeting called “Misraine” (Eng. Mix) which takes place in the Lithuanian Embassy in London. Considered as one of the main events of the year, the current committee successfully presented what they were able to do during the previous year - goals, achievements, events and also considered future strategy of the association. Also, in this event, new members of the committee were chosen by the members of the association. Not only did a high number of new members take part in this event, as more than 35 members signed up, it was also a great networking opportunity and a place of discussion regarding Lithuanian nationality and culture topics for the UK youth. The 2-day event was concluded with a guided tour of London and a golf session. - Virtual meetings "Kavos klubas" (Eng. "Coffee Club") and discussions on various aspects of Lithuanian culture for individuals of Lithuanian descent living in the UK and other countries, including the US and Canada, attracting around 20 individuals to each event. - A series of live trivia quiz games "Auksinis protas" (Eng. "Golden Mind" in English) that attracted up to 15 participants in each game. - Parallel runs of annual global Lithuanian running challenge "5 uz Lietuva" (Eng. "5 for Lithuania")) in London and Edinburgh. These runs were accompanied by parallel simultaneous picnics in London and Edinburgh, attracting around 15 individuals.
As per Constitution of UKLYA, 16-35 year old individuals of Lithuanian descent living in the UK are considered stakeholders of UKLYA. From 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023, UKLYA actively tried consulting young individuals of Lithuanian descent in the UK about their needs and how best to translate that to activities that would benefit community in the UK. This was implemented through online polls, direct discussions with representatives of Lithuanian student communities or independent individuals attending UKLYA events, also, direct message exchanges via UKLYA social media channels.
