The company continued to provide the practical hands on support to those affected by hoarding, chronic disorganisation, extreme clutter and self neglect. We also provided advice and guidance as well as raising awareness, consultancy, talks and training virtually and over the telephone. The company delivered many talks on raising awareness of hoarding as a mental health disorder, focusing on self-neglect and safeguarding and has delivered talks to numerous groups. During 2023-2024, the company's activities have benefitted the community in the following ways:- - We continued to provide hands on support for the extremely vulnerable, decluttering, organising, clearing physical items and providing emotional and practical support for numerous individuals both in their homes and via email and telephone. This enabled essential works to be carried out, removing biohazardous materials and allowing reinstatement of running water, avoiding potential eviction and ensuring the focus has been on the safety of the homes as well as the clients and families well-being. We have also supported clients return home from hospital. We have supported individuals to accept other agencies to support them in their homes too. - Many of our clients have physical mobility issues and other mental health issues so we have been able to assist in physically taking many items away to local recycling centres, charities and community groups who can use these items for other local residents in need. - We have assisted and provided advice for family members, friends and concerned neighbours and professionals. We are fast becoming known as a helpline for people needing support themselves as well as those around them. There continues to be a vast increase in calls and emails we received from people, especially statutory agencies, who we were able to assist and signpost to help and support. We have worked alongside many agencies including the fire services, social services, police and the members of the NHS. - We have continued to raise awareness of hoarding by conducting presentations addressing the concerns, health and safety aspects of this disorder to social interest groups, support agencies, NHS, Social Services, Environmental Health and hoarding panels and forums. We contributed to Hoarding Awareness week in May. We attended an event raising awareness in Hampshire with Jo Cooke as the main speaker. - We have supported Oxford University again, Northumberland University and Kings College London in being able to contribute to much needed research on the complexities of hoarding. We have actively posted requests to contribute to the research on our website and publicised across our social media channels. - We still have people working with people affected in Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Devon, Cornwall, Berkshire, London, Bath and Bristol. We continued to employ a social media operative to put a great deal of energy into raising awareness this way. - We inspired and supported a new hoarding panel in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and are continuing to support them as well as encouraging other areas to adopt this initiative.
The company's stakeholders are clients, delegates on our training, attendees of our support groups and the numerous enquiries we receive either via telephone or email. - Clients - we conduct an initial assessment with each client. At the start of each session we act upon the assessment and then review this at the end of the session using our progress form. When a client was nearing the end of their sessions with us, as part of our exit strategy, we also documented what worked well/what didn't and considered the feedback as appropriate.
