COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

TRANSITION TOWN IG3 CIC

Company Number: 14425587 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 October 2023

Company activities and impact

Transition town IG3 is a group of local residents sustaining and transforming the IG3 area (Seven Kings and Goodmayes) in a caring and environmentally friendly community. The project is run by the community for the community, to enable people living in a more environmentally friendly way. We welcome and include local people who have something to share or want to learn and be part of making IG3 a better place to live. Our first priority activity in year 1 was to train ourselves on collaborative decision making as part of our day-to-day communication with local people and also at a Steering Group level. 12 local people attended 3 sociocracy training sessions delivered by a local resident over 6 days, enabling us to begin confidently with our engagement in the local area and with the roles withing the Steering Group. Following our training, we delivered the following activities. Trained 32 people on how to make forest gardens: a place for all people to share and learn how to grow food in a low maintenance way. This involved 3 workshops delivered over 8 days where we explored and made designs for the gardens. This engaged 180 people over the year of people interested in wanting to help make the forest garden happen. Unfortunately the local council rescinded permission for the original location of the forest garden and despite our attempts to resolve this and identify another location we were not able to proceed with the actual creation of the forest garden. Delivered 12 sessions for the public on how to upcycle clothing at the local library, supporting people to repair and completely remake old clothes into something new. This Engaged on average 12 people per session, half of whom came to most sessions, engaging around 150 people in total and involving a wide range of new garments such as bags, dresses and accessories. We also attempted to set up a food buyers coop in our first year but there was not enough interest. We continue to keep this as a ‘live’ option, mentioning it to people we speak to in the local community and are open to setting this up whenever there is a big enough collective to begin.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are anyone in the local community who has an interest in and wants to get involved in improving the local area. As part of our delivery activities above there is always consultation on how residents would like to execute the projects we deliver and what their priorities are as part of this. We then move forward with the next sessions based on this feedback
