Broad Roots staged two arts events in Lowestoft this financial year, an area of high deprivation, in a new arts centre, 'The Grit'. Tickets were kept at an affordable cost and engagement was good. This supported the new community arts centre in its early attempts to raise its profile and to become viable and provided opportunities for the local community to engage the arts and the artists involved. It also provided work for freelance artists within the community.
We met and consulted with our fellow directors of Broad Roots, who are long time residents of the area, to discuss what events to put on and to review after the events. We were in regular consultation with the manager of the Arts Centre 'The Grit' to agree the best way to stage, manage and publicise the events and what other events we could stage going forward. We consulted with the book shop contained within the arts centre, who also stages film viewings, how best to provide video backdrops to performances about local heritage and culture. The general public who attended the events, mainly from a two mile radius of the venue, were consulted after the events to gather ideas for the future and their general experience of the events. Likewise, the artists engaged were consulted about their experience.
No remuneration was received
No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
