Company activities and impact

Stoke Creates CIC is an inclusive engine for artistic, creative and cultural participation across Stoke and North Staffordshire, working towards our common goal of achieving ‘place-based regeneration’ for future generations.Stoke Creates exists to realise the creative potential of everyone living and working in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. Stoke Creates has been working on a Strategic Plan 2024 - 2034 outlining the goals and actions that Stoke Creates is committing to lead on to transform the city's cultural landscape over the next decade. Stoke Creates supports connectivity, strategic partnership work and investment from all sources. The Strategic Plan plan sits in the context of Stoke City Council’s current Cultural Strategy (2022-28) and Arts Council England’s strategy Let’s Create (2020-2030) and Stoke City Council’s Our City, Our Well- Being Strategic Plan 2024-2028. Stoke Creates was awarded funding from Arts Council England which allowed us to develop our philanthropic work and pilot a cash match fund campaign with the Big Give. Stoke Creates has appointed an officer who is the philanthropy lead. They have now been in post since January 2023 and has been developing and working on: - Overseeing the Arts for Impact Big give Campaign - £50,000 investment from Stoke Creates / £10,000 from Big Give and £5,000 from Foundling Museum gave us a starting pot of £65,000. £59,508 raised by arts charities for Stoke-on-Trent, and with gift aid the total raised for Stoke-on-Trent was £132,304. supported 6 charities through the campaign and have attached the feedback for information. - Stoke Creates also supported the visit of the World Craft City Judges panel in May 2024. The city was granted this international award and is planning to bid for UNESCO World Heritage status. - Stoke Creates philanthropy lead is working on securing funding streams for local arts ecology via fund philanthropic engagement activities including Stoke 100 to celebrate the city's forthcoming centenary year (2025). Diversity: Stoke Creates has supported diverse representation in the arts by funding Kwanzaa Collective, a collective of black and brown artists in the city. Access: Stoke Creates has increased access for communities by investing in four Cultural Activation Zones spread geographically across the city, promoting arts and cultural activity in high streets.

Consultation with stakeholders

Stoke Creates has commissioned and delivered fourteen Exchange Forum events. These have been level playing field networking events giving the wider arts and cultural community the opportunity to present - gaps and challenges they face in their work - opportunities and solutions they identify as efficacious - create internal partnerships and alliances that address some of these challenges - access training opportunities The Forum events have taken a number of guises and have created many different access points for artists and creatives with a wide range of needs.(flexible working, neuro-divergence, caring responsibilities etc). The Forum also presents an opportunity for intersectional working most recently connecting with regional arts and health initiatives. The Forum has had over 200 attendees and is in contact with over 300 practitioners and volunteers.

Directors' remuneration

Susan Clarke is the Executive Director of Stoke Creates and was appointed through a competitive process in March 2023. She is paid on a freelance basis. The contract value is approx £35,000 in any 12 month period. The remuneration is in the accounts.
