Company activities and impact

Introduction Opportunities with Experience (O-W-E) C.I.C is dedicated to helping women in the community access continuous training and employment in the building trade by providing both training and work experience opportunities. Our initiative aligns with local employment potential across communities in Kent and Southeast London. Understanding and Networks Being run by tradeswomen, we have a deep understanding and lived experience of the challenges involved in recruiting women into the trade. Through research, we have identified the current issues in the sector and have established long-lasting connections within relevant local networks. We are successfully achieving our aim of building a local network of tradespeople who can collaborate and engage more extensively with the wider market. Approved Service Provider As of April-May 2024, we have officially become an approved service provider, delivering our courses in partnership with sections of the probation service. We now offer several courses, including "Revamp and Recycle" and "Working with Power Tools." Successes and Impact To date, we have worked with over 300 women, helping them achieve qualifications such as the Level 1 Health and Safety Awareness certificate and the Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating, while also providing them with employment opportunities. We have also offered subcontracting work to twelve women as painter-decorators, supporting their aspirations to enter the construction industry.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders include the learners on the programme as well as other organisations and projects, such as housing associations, work programmes, and youth initiatives that collaborate with us. The feedback we have received from end users and clients has been encouraging, and as a result, we are expanding our list of approved courses to offer a wider variety of manual trade courses.
