Balance sheet statements

For the year ending 31 January 2024 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

These accounts have been prepared and delivered in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime.

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover comprises the invoiced value of goods and services supplied by the company plus grants received, net of Value Added Tax (where VAT registered) and trade discounts.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

    Tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land, are stated at cost or valuation less depreciation and any provision for impairment. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost or valuation of fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following basis: Computer Equipment 25% Reducing Balance

Company activities and impact

PhotoVoice designs and delivers community engagement activities using its methodology on participatory photography. It also provides training, undertakes commissions, and delivers consultancy services to a range of partners to help them incorporate the use of ethical photography for engagement, advocacy, and research, amongst others. During the financial year ending 31st January 2024, PhotoVoice CIC delivered the following activities: - Provided training in participatory photography to a range of individuals, through the running of 4 online courses and 1 in-person course available for anyone to attend - Working with academic institutions such as the Technological University of the Shannon in Ireland, the University of Greenwich, and Middlesex University. - Providing training to a consortium of organisations in Jersey, helping to develop new programmes for community engagement using participatory photography - Delivered a comprehensive programme of community engagement in Australia, working alongside issue-affected communities to help understand the impact of education provision in remote rural areas. - Supported the delivery of community engagement efforts in rural India, in collaboration with students at UCLA PhotoVoice also published new methodological papers, such as our Statement of Ethical Practice, which was released under Creative Commons Licensing, enabling other organisations and individuals worldwide to benefit from our ethical approach. All of these activities have directly contributed to the use of participatory photography for a wide range of community members.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are - practitioners of participatory photography methods and approaches - institutions and organisations which seek to use participatory photography for community engagement - community members who are underrepresented and/or issue affected and attend workshops Our training content provides robust pre-engagement and evaluation methods to help improve the content we provide. With our bespoke training options, we tailor our content to meet the needs of those who we are working with, providing new curriculums based on the communities they are working with. This is done through engagement in advance. With our project delivery, we provide participants with choice and control throughout the process, designing workshops based on the environment (both geographical and topic) they are in, in consultation with project partners and community members. This ensures that our activities are best serving the needs of those involved with them.
