Company activities and impact

We have continued to run 3 x older adult classes, Movers, in the rural communities of Felixstowe, Hadleigh and Stowmarket. We have also started 2 x new Chair Yoga classes in the rural communities of Stowupland and Hadleigh, which are aimed at older adults and those with less mobility. These 5 x classes have supported the physical and mental wellbeing of the participants through dance and yoga exercise classes that are inclusive and accessible for all levels of mobility, and support those with long term health conditions specifically. We have recently launched a new class for toddlers and their grown up’s at Hadleigh Library, which supports parents/carers and the development of their little one through story, music and dance. All classes have seen an increase in attendance and strong communities built from them, especially the 3 x Movers classes which include social time with refreshments.

Consultation with stakeholders

Surveys with all class participants were completed to see how we can improve class material, if they were feeling benefits that we say in our aims of the classes, and any logistics that can be improved. Questions were asked about where they heard about the classes, timings of the classes, value for money, whether there were benefits to their physical and mental well-being and what else they might want to see in classes that they currently don’t. We found out the following data: -6.25% of participants are 50-59 yrs old, 6.25% of participants are 90+yrs old, 15.6% of participants are 60-69yrs old, 53.1% of participants are 70-79ys old, and 15.6% of participants are 80-89yrs old. -75% of participants said they were happy paying what they currently do, and 25% would pay more. -93% feel they have improved their physical health since coming, and 96% feel that they have improved their mental wellbeing since coming. This data has given us a clear indication of who we market to, and that we’re providing the right type of service for those people. We have the following testimonials from the surveys too: “It is uplifting and the social interaction aspect is of huge benefit - meeting people and having a laugh together whilst being active at our own level” “Friendly and inclusive” “I have arthritis in my knees and hips, coming to class makes me forget about the discomfort I feel and cheers me up” “The class not only helps with physical health but mental health too. Meeting new people and chatting too” “Yes, it keeps my body moving, and as some of the movements can be done at home, and I do. I'm not so stiff and dodgy, also it's nice to meet other people like myself” “These classes are a godsend for people. It gets us to get up and go. The dance routine and exercises helps us. Also interacting with people helps us mentally” This allows us to see we’re connecting with the right audience, and providing a valuable ser-vice. We have found areas to work on and will build these into the next year. We have received a grant from the IP14 Wellbeing Grants through the local councils for StowMovers classes to help provide marketing, venue costs, staff costs, refreshments, project management and equipment costs. We also received a revenue grant from the local council to support the core costs of the CIC – including better evaluation which will involve a promotional video of the company, administration costs, general office costs, and funds to support 2 x of the classes staff fees.
