COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

HADITHI C.I.C.

Company Number: 13841369 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 January 2024

Company activities and impact

The company’s activities benefit minoritised communities, through research-led cultural arts and heritage activities. In spring 2022 we were awarded National Lottery Heritage money to conduct an intergenerational oral history project with members of the South Asian community in Cambridgeshire. This project came to an end in spring 2023, early on during the financial year (Feb 23 – Jan 24) being reported. The project, Hidden Heritages Cambridgeshire: Cross-generational connections through memories, benefitted the community in the following ways: 1. Through a three-day intensive training programme, skilled up Cambridgeshire South Asian young people in oral history techniques, forging lifelong skills, and empowering them to see themselves as active historians 2. They interviewed community elders about their experiences of migration, identity and belonging, revealing important marginal histories of migration that are quickly disappearing. We then preserved these stories, with Cambridgeshire Archives 3. Increased wellbeing, creating bonds between generations, and between trainee participants As suggested this project came to an end early on in the financial year to which this report relates. The remaining period was dedicated to developing a new funding proposal to benefit local communities, and submitting that application.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders include project participants the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Cambridge City Council, Peterborough City Council, Museum of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire archives, the local South Asian community, and teachers and school children at a South Cambridgeshire secondary school. We worked with many of these stakeholders during Hidden Heritages Cambridgeshire: Cross-generational connections through memories. For further project development, we communicated with all stakeholders through the bid development stage, canvassing guidance, best practice, and new project ideas. As a result of these consultations, we implemented feedback from stakeholders into the funding bid. The funding bid was submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund in winter 2023.
