The company provides a range of peer support groups which bring people together to connect for the benefit of their mental health and wellbeing. Our area of expertise is supporting men and we are currently delivering 3, 2 hour mens meetings every week. These peer support groups involve a mixture of individual, small group and whole group discussion. In the past year we have enhanced our volunteer support provision, building up a group of men who inform the direction and output of our work, while assisting in our delivery. This involves more 1-1 development and we have added more creative opportunities into our work, working alongside local artists to help men express their emotions. Volunteers have represented us at events in our local community, as well as running fortnightly walking groups to add to our offer. Men feel well connected and show an appreciation of the NHS 5 Ways to Wellbeing as they grow in confidence. They develop greater self-awareness, understanding of others and personal agency. Volunteers are developing leadership qualities. We now have a good network of groups in Salford, with improving links and connections between the groups. Mental health services and agencies are becoming more and more aware of our work and we have received over 150 referrals into our groups. We are exploring additional funding opportunities to scale-up our work and the quality of what we provide. Our organisation has benefitted the community by- Providing regular events to reduce isolation. Signposting users onto further sources of support. Inviting guest speakers to provide events requested by the community. Providing opportunities for users to train to become facilitators. Producing Mental Health First Aiders. Conducting 1:1 sessions to support community members. Connecting users through online platforms and WhatsApp groups. Supporting volunteers with regular supervision and development. Helping users in crisis to find the specialist support needed. Attending outreach events to promote services Hosting visitors to raise awareness of men’s health issues
The company’s stakeholders are adults over the age of 18 who wish to connect with the groups and services we offer, predominantly men. We have held various consultation meetings in Salford prior to establishing new groups. We have recruited and trained volunteers and been funded in various ways, including local housing associations, local CVS grants and donations from organisations. Volunteers and group attendees are involved in shaping groups and suggest potential topics for discussion. We have strengthened our links with local community connectors (social prescribers) especially in Salford where we have received high numbers of referrals from the Wellbeing Matters program. The connectors tell us what the needs of the community are and help us to create groups to meet those needs. We have begun to strengthen links with more mental health services, such as Living Well Salford and other organisations such as Salford Health Improvement Team.
