Over the past year, recruitment efforts were expanded to address the need for additional staff and to enhance the clinic's service capacity. A national advert for occupational therapists was placed, attracting 8 applicants, of whom 5 were shortlisted for interviews. From these, 3 were offered positions, and 2 accepted, starting in March 2024. Prior to the national campaign, a local advert was issued. Although there were several inquiries, only one candidate met the qualifications. She was interviewed, accepted the role, and began her employment in September 2023. Due to staff changes, the number of appointments offered decreased to 968, primarily because of lost man hours following the resignation of a key staff member. While the position was filled quickly, the new hire worked significantly fewer hours, leading to a reduction in appointments. Initial appointments remained lower (23) than follow-up appointments (945), which is expected to continue given the nature of the services offered to families. In response to the growing demand for services and in line with our community needs, it was agreed that additional staffing was required to meet the increasing caseload and facilitate the reopening of the waiting list. Collaborative relationships were developed with other private practices, which enabled joint therapy sessions, such as those involving speech and language therapists or drama therapists. This has enhanced the holistic approach to care provided at the clinic. Further engagement with community groups has also been a key focus. Training was delivered to several scouting groups on the importance of inclusion and ensuring that activities, such as scouting, are accessible to all young people. Additionally, the clinic was invited to present to the scouts, supporting them in achieving their disability awareness badges. The clinic continued to offer student placements for individuals aged 16 and above, encouraging interest in occupational therapy as a career. This initiative aims to foster a pipeline of future qualified professionals to support the clinic’s recruitment efforts. Looking ahead, the clinic will focus on increasing the number of qualified staff to provide services to more families. Relationships with community organizations will be further developed to support integration and education efforts. The student placement program will also continue to play a pivotal role in building future capacity within the clinic.
