COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

DONISTHORPE COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 13577823 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

There has been an ongoing involvement with the community through the following activities Apple Day: Apple Day was a great success, raising both funds and the profile of the CIC. We were thrilled to welcome new members, further strengthening our community. New Equipment: Thanks to member Paula Tighe, we secured funding to purchase a brush cutter, which has been instrumental in maintaining the paths. Naming of the land: It was decided that the land needed its own identity, The name ‘Colliers Field Reserve’ was chosen by local residents and CIC members in recognition of the village mining history. Bird Hide Installation: With a generous donation from the Donisthorpe Community Group and a kind gentleman, we installed a bird hide in our wildlife area. This space now allows local bird enthusiasts to enjoy birdwatching in a peaceful, natural setting. Tree Planting: Member Richard Chilton Williams, alongside Director Lyn, secured 100 trees for the wildlife area from Coles Nursery in Leicester. Richard also obtained a £100 donation from David Wilson Homes, further supporting our conservation efforts. New Compost Area: Director Deborah and her family built and installed a new compost area at no cost to the CIC. Despite some unfortunate vandalism during the project, their determination ensured the completion of this important feature for the site. Welcoming The Bee Farmer: This year, we welcomed Dave, a local bee farmer, and his honey bee apiary to Colliers Field Reserve. In addition to contributing to the biodiversity of the area, Dave generously built a website for the CIC, providing a digital platform to engage with the community. Little Acorn Forest School: In March, Little Acorn Forest School began hosting sessions at Colliers Field, which have been increasingly popular. This partnership strengthens our educational outreach and fosters an early connection with nature for children. Open Day (June 15th): Despite challenging weather, our Open Day was a success. We raised funds and awareness for the CIC’s ongoing work and welcomed three local election candidates, offering residents the chance to engage with them before Polling Day. New Pedestrian Gate: Following a members’ vote, funds raised during the Open Day will be used to install a pedestrian gate at Colliers Field, which is scheduled for installation in October. Community Recognition: In September, we were honoured to receive a ‘Certificate of Recognition’ from the Parish Council at their community awards for our dedication and contribution to the local environment and wildlife conservation.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are members of the CIC and residents of the village as a whole. There has been 8 formal meetings throughout the year where all matters pertaining to the running of the CIC and the development of the land are discussed. All meetings are open to all stakeholders. There has been 8 working party sessions where stakeholders have been maintaining the land and engaging with other members of the community. The Open Day encouraged non members to come onto the land to see what we are doing and what we want to achieve, as a direct result this gave rise to an additional 10 members along with a visit by the parish council, the county council and the local MP.
