Scottie Press C.I.C. runs a local community newspaper in North Liverpool, distributed to shops, cafes, pubs, and community centres. In addition, we utilise the newspaper’s extensive photography archive to run educational and creative workshops. Since our first financial year in March 2018, we have aimed to benefit the local community in the following ways: Publishing six editions of the Scottie Press newspaper, each with a print run of 800 copies. The content includes relevant and engaging news on local issues such as council activities, community campaigns, infrastructure changes, employment opportunities, human interest stories, entertainment, history, sport, health, and other valuable community information. Providing numerous work experience and volunteer roles within our organisation, offering people valuable experience in the newspaper industry to support their employment and education. Collaborating in art exhibitions to promote local culture and celebrate the heritage of North Liverpool, using our photography archive to maintain the local identity. Launching a weekly history archiving service with the support of local volunteers. This initiative helps community members research local history using the extensive records housed in the Scottie Press C.I.C. office. Adapting to Challenges: During the pandemic, we transitioned to an exclusively online publication to continue delivering local news. This ensured that the newspaper provided its essential service during these uncertain times. In the financial year 2022-2023, we initiated efforts to restructure our operations and extend our reach as a local digital media platform through various innovative digital channels. This led to the development of a new business and marketing strategy aimed at relaunching the company in 2024 with a fresh mission focused on delivering educational and informative content to benefit our stakeholders. Challenges in 2023-2024: Unfortunately, despite our intentions, limited financial resources and volunteer capacity have prevented us from fully executing our plans. Securing the necessary funds and resources has been our biggest obstacle. As a result, the Board of Directors discussed the possibility of winding down Scottie Press C.I.C. during our most recent meeting. While we are continuing to explore all options and expect to make a final decision in 2025, we are providing this update to ensure transparency. We remain committed to our mission and to benefiting the community, though the current circumstances present significant limitations. Our focus moving forward is to review all options for the future of Scottie Press C.I.C. and to determine the best course of action for the company and the community it serves.
