Company activities and impact

In the space provided below, please insert a general account of the company’s activities in the financial year to which the report relates, including a description of how they have benefited the community. Since becoming a CIC on July 14th 2022 and during the financial year 2023 to 2024, The Flamingo Lounge Inclusive Events CIC has created regular inclusive nightclubs, other dancefloor events, activities and workshops, made by and for, and incorporating learning disabled people, neurodivergent people and people with varying abilities and their carers. In doing so, our work has created access, inclusion and representation in recreational and cultural life for learning disabled people, neurodivergent people and people with varying abilities, allowing them to come together, connect, contribute, be seen, heard and feel better in safe places. The activities have helped to reduce social isolation and marginalisation for learning disabled people, neurodivergent people and people with varying abilities, caused by disability, disempowerment and discrimination. Our activities have also raised awareness to and created links with the wider community regarding the experiences of learning disabled people, neurodivergent people and people with varying abilities. Our activities in 2023-2024 were specifically: The Flamingo Lounge Nightclub – a regular inclusive nightclub event with a following of about 120 people per event. DJ Skills Workshops / Activity Sessions – outreach workshops and activities spanning several differennt community venues and organisations, which reached approximately 70 people. Silent Disco / Mobile Disco Hire – hiring out our equioment to the wider community for community uses and events and giving opportunities and representation for disabled DJs to perform within their communities.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are learning disabled people, neurodivergent people and people with varying abilities and their carers. We have also created a steering committee called ‘The Flamingo Gang’ made up of the service users who get to represent their views wishes and feelings and inform the company’s activities and operations via regular meetings. Also, stakeholders are local groups, charities and organisations and the wider public. The directors of the company are all people who have lived experience of learning disability and physical and mental health disability which makes the CIC disability-led and person-centred. During this financial year, we consistently gathered feedback via surveys and questionnaires from stakeholders. We also operate a service user steering committee of learning disable people called ‘The Flamingo Gang’, who meet regularly to make decisions and participate in steering the company’s activities. For this period, our consultations with stakeholder told us that our services were Excellent (82%) or Very Good (18%).100% of respondents told us that they, or the people they support learned new skills and that the activities had significant and some improvement on their mental health and wellbeing. 95% told us that our services helped people to reduce social isolation and increase access and participation to the community. 94% of people who used our services said that they would recommend our services to others.
