Directors' report period ended 31 January 2024

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 January 2024

Principal activities of the company

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITY Athelas CiC was formed in January 2016 to provide activities in a woodland setting to benefit individuals and their carers in the Yorkshire region who may be currently suffering or at risk of suffering from a physical, mental or emotional health issue. The community benefits from activities that contribute to the management and upkeep of the natural environment, learning new skills, spending time in a therapeutic environment with others in a social manner. This year we completed our People Health Trust funded project. It was delayed because of COVID. We had over 25 people benefit directly from our service. They all reported an increase in general wellbeing, increased friendship groups and better knowledge of the natural world. We were also successful in gaining funding from Reaching Communities. We are very excited about this project as it will enable to improve as an organisation.

Consultation with stakeholders

On the 13th August we ran a yoga day, as part of that we consulted 20 attendees about what they would like to see more of in the woods. About 8 of these people were regular attendees, the other 12 people were one off attendees. We asked; what they wanted more of, when they wanted it and who did they want to run it (as in different people or the same faces etc) The answers were across the board. Some wanted regular sessions, others wanted Saturdays and others liked one off events with a specific outcome. In addition we consult all participants that attend our regular sessions, this has been since 2020 and this includes around 40 separate individuals. This is more informal, but we note as much down as possible after the session. Things that get asked/ discussed include things such as when we run, what they want to do (cooking etc) how it makes them feel, if they want other provider in etc
