The company runs a surf school in South Shields. We use the coastal environment to benefit our community’s wellbeing and improve the environment. We positively impacted our community this year with over 9770 people taking part in our activities encouraging engaging with the coastal environment and being active in nature. We had 5592 spaces used this year in our water activities (surfing, bodyboarding, paddle boarding, snorkelling) 1941 people taking part in environmental education and rockpooling sessions, with over 70% accessing this through schools at a discounted rate. We had 3352 instances of private hire of equipment. We had 35 schools and 64 community groups come this year accessing our services at a discounted rate using 2768 spaces. 11 Wellbeing Surf Courses for children and young people with SEN and SEMH and Young Carers benefiting 74 individual children and young people in 319 in spaces used. We funded 2 free surf sessions for 16 children from Bright Futures. 21 kids benefited from our weekly SEN surf club in 314 spaces in the sessions with an average attendance of 8 per week and maximum of 16. 137 different people benefited from our fully funded adult wellbeing session and used the drop in sessions when they needed and 198 spaces were used in the 20 sessions. 32 Veterans are registered with the Sea Company project with average weekly attendance of 4 people. 93 instances where beach access wheelchairs were given out for free not including our adaptive surf provision 173 people with disabilities came surfing with our adaptive surf offer using 251 spaces. Over 40 volunteers signed up and helping us out with 4 coming from a local college for additional needs, but only an average of 16 regular volunteers. We funded 5 new qualified staff plus 3 renewals. Rebecca and Nick became lifeguard trainer assessors and put through 10 of the staff in a course starting in November 23 and finishing March 24. Nick is a Surf Coach Trainer Assessor now and we have had 3 trainees come through with 1 finishing last year and another 2 finishing this year. 35 regular attendees in our community kids surf club. 50 beach cleans - This is an estimate, we had 3 sup cleans and 5 organised beach cleans but loads of informal. We act as a point of information/safety for the public at the beach - particularly when the lifeguards are not on duty and have been directly involved in 3 rescues/first aid incidents involving 3 people accessing the beach/ocean independently of us. Ran the Autumn Beach Festival with 24 organisations including the national trust and Natural England and we were an official celebration for the England Coast Path. We estimate that over 1000 people attended the event each day.
We have encouraged all participants to leave reviews of their experiences and listen to their feedback. We also ask verbally all clients about the experiences they had, and record this in the session reports. We work with groups that come down consulting via email prior to trips to make sure that they get the trip that they need, and create bespoke programmes for them and resources. We then follow up after to see what experience they had and use this in future courses. We use a designated feedback form for this process. We gave full feedback forms to parents, guardians and participants in our surf mentor project. We got participant, parent and group leaders in our pay it forward scheme to fill out feedback and experience forms We have used wellbeing questionnaires and have shown across all measures beneficial improvements from our activities for our participants. We have an online public feedback form available via our website and facebook page. At the end of the season we put out a reminder to get everyone who came to provide us feedback.
The aggregate remuneration paid to our receivable directors for qualifying services was £20,211 There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
