Company activities and impact

Art and Energy CIC (trading as The Art and Energy Collective) is a group of artists, makers, thinkers and tinkerers who want to use our skills to respond to the climate emergency. We are winners of the Sustainability First People's Choice Art Award. We specialise in designing mass participation artworks that help people connect with nature and empower individuals to take their own artistic steps toward making a brighter, greener world. Our vision for a sustainable future is one where art thrives, enriching a world in harmony with the environment. Our focus for this financial year has been our new mass participation artwork The Mossy Carpet (www.artandenergy.org/the-mossy-carpet) which is inspired by moss and made by many people. Thousands of individually made pom-poms and textile tufts adorn fleecy felt from Dartmoor, creating a beautiful mossy carpet. Each pompom represents someone’s small attempt to make the world better for all of life. This financial year through The Mossy Carpet we have engaged with, >8,748 participants from local communities in Plymouth, Exeter and the wider South West plus some further afield in the UK and internationally in Ireland and Turkiye. >183 artist days >96 volunteer days >23,353 live audience participants >736,000 Broadcast reach from television and radio appearances >18,501 reach from our website www.artandenergy.org >55,761 plus reach across our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and YouTube)

Consultation with stakeholders

Art and Energy consider anyone supporting our work financially to be a stakeholder. We have received financial support from - 25 different stakeholders over the past year including Sovereign Housing, Plymouth City Council, Eden Project, BRICKS Bristol and the Ernest Cook Trust. We have feedback forms in place for partners who support us financially and commission us to deliver events and workshops. In addition, we have feedback forms for groups who invite us to deliver sessions for the communities and for individual participants who engage with our work. Feedback quote examples, We loved working with Art and Energy, The Mossy Carpet was such a good fit for us both as a public art producer but also for the communities we were designing the programme for. Art and Energy were a joy to work with from start to finish. (BRICKS Bristol.) The perfect collision of science and art which brings such integrity and joy to the whole project. So much was skilfully covered in such a short time. Our practitioners left bursting with ideas and inspired to incorporate this project into their work. We also love the fact that the project encourages everyone to feel part of something larger than themselves with such positive and hopeful messaging about such an important subject. (Ernest Cook Trust.) Art and Energy's work is hugely inspiring. They have a knack of finding ways to build mass participation through creativity and link it back to action. Who would have thought that pom poms and carpet would do the trick and yet they've engaged literally 1000s of people! That takes some doing. (Climate Connections, Plymouth City Council.) All feedback from stakeholders is acknowledged and regularly reviewed, our work delivery is adapted based on feedback received.
