  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover is reduced for estimated customer returns, rebates and other similar allowances. Sale of goods Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods has transferred to the buyer. This is usually at the point that the customer has signed for the delivery of the goods. Rendering of services Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs. Turnover is only recognised to the extent of recoverable expenses when the outcome of a contract cannot be estimated reliably.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

HOPE STREET SOCIAL CIC

Company Number: 14769875 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2024

Company activities and impact

We are frequently told about the lack of safe community spaces and places that are designed to be welcoming and friendly to all whilst offering educational, joyful and therapeutic experiences. To help transform this in Sandbach, we are offering a peaceful and safe environment at Hope Street Social, where people can come and take part in a variety of activities at the weekends. So far we have delivered: Ukrainian Circle of Resource – fortnightly support group on a Friday evening for up to 20 adults and your people living in the UK due to the conflict in Ukraine – since setting up the CIC in March 2023 we have ran 19 of these sessions. Mentoring for ASD/ADHD – so far 39 hours of free mentoring have been offered to people recently diagnosed with ADHD or autism. Monthly Social Club – Since setting up the CIC we have ran 12 workshops with monthly themes and meetings booked for the remainder of this year.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are residents of Cheshire and the surrounding areas, and visitors to Hope Street Social Ukrainian Support Group, ADHD and Autism Mentoring Services and the monthly Social Club. The directors of the company have worked in the town for 14+ years each, and developed the business model for the CIC based on their experience of talking to over 500 people regarding their mental health and wellbeing needs. This in depth consultation led us to realise that there was a need to support people with loneliness and isolation specifically, through safe group settings, and also to provide support to the growing number of people being diagnosed with autism and ADHD. We ask everyone attending our workshops and mentoring service for the first time to fill in a short questionnaire about their experiences and expectations of the workshop. Approximately one-third of the 500 people we have been in contact with were able to afford to pay for private counselling for their mental health needs and so in instances of isolation, these people would suffer alone. We encourage those delivering workshops for Hope Street Social to pick up ideas for the social club’s future workshops when talking to attendees and we keep a “suggestions box” on our feedback forms for attendees to let us know what they would benefit from in the future.
