COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BRASS BATHTUB CIC

Company Number: 12356908 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2023

Company activities and impact

Our mission is to deliver community projects that enable people to experience and participate in arts activities. We work with specific communities that would benefit from access to the arts such as the elderly, youth, and people living with disabilities. The company provides several project-based jobs for which we provide guidance and mentoring, improving the skills and employability of those involved. Our activities also enhance opportunities for local events and help to strengthen community spirit. This year has again been focused on organisational and company development to support, in particular, the aims and objectives of our project, “100 Ways to Say Goodbye”. This project facilitates communities to process loss and mourn. A lot of our efforts have been to build up networks with community groups and artists engaged in this area of work. We attended a Bereavement Awareness Workshop hosted by Weston Hospicecare, which taught useful skills in empathy, active listening, and self-awareness. We also delivered monthly online ‘Life Handover’ meetings - an interactive space about end-of-life wishes & improving well-being in the face of death through creative drawing activities. Quotes from participants in our activities: “It was very interesting; moving and inspiring. Thanks a lot.” Polly “It was a great workshop; a great start to many for me! Really enjoyed it; found it super interesting to see how you guys go about sparking conversations about death and engaging with the topic.” John “The zoom life handover session is an absolute joy. Laura has the skill to introduce some very serious; potentially stressful topics in a form that feels life-enhancing and fun.” Sarah "Thank you so much for helping me to create such a personal "farewell" to my father.” Celia “I have talked about aspects of my life after my wife’s death that I had never shared before” “Brassbathtub discussion group was the first time I talked about my mother’s suicide; it was a milestone for me”.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders include members of public and community groups who participate in our activities; artists who we employ to deliver these; and other organisations we interact and collaborate including community funeral celebrants. We've been active members of the death positivity movement, going to around 2/3 events a month, including North Bristol Death cafe; Bristol Death Cafe; Clevedon Death cafe; Arnos Vale Cemetery; Community Networks Weston Super Mare; Weston Hospice Care. At these events, we have honest & open conversations with up to 15 members about their needs. These informal consultations directly inform our projects. For example, we better understand the specificity of grieving when you’re neurodiverse and have recruited a neurodiverse consultant.
