The land purchase at Whittle Dene is now complete legally and has been bought by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust charity. The CIC played a major part in securing the sale with close collaboration and negotiations between the original landowner and the buyer. The area of land is much larger than the original proposal, including ancient meadows, ancient woodland and riverside. The CIC will continue to operate to help shape maintenance projects on the site and provide the community network with Northumberland Wildlife Trust for involvement in regenerating the area. The CIC is evolving its internal organisation to adapt to its new role and continues to work closely with its partner. The events programme has been running successfully, operating both for financial support of the CIC’s vision and volunteer events for the local community and other charity links.
Our stakeholders are locals from nearby villages (Ovingham and Ovington), cabin owners, visitors to the site - including formal groups such as walking groups, our partner organisations, local parish councils and the County Council. We represent the needs of the wildlife - flora and fauna - who have the biggest stake in our activities but who have no way to communicate. We have created many opportunities in-person and online for information sharing and to hear people’s thoughts and feelings about our vision. However, we have not had formal stakeholder consultations or reached out to potential stakeholders who may be less visible to us.
