Company activities and impact

The CIC provided music lessons and tuition to enable young people aged 7 to 22 to pass Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music - ABRSM. 70% of the students live on the Silchester or Lancaster West estates and have been affected by the 2017 Grenfell Fire tragedy. The remaining 30% live in social housing on other estates in North Kensington . Attendance is 95% and we have a waiting list due to our reputation with young people and their parents. The young people have to practice their music pieces through out the week so they are engaged for far more time that just the music lessons. The young people enjoy music, they would not progress if they did not and have the added bonus of being able to refer to it on university and other college or work application forms. The young people are fully engaged by the project. The project provides young people with focus and something that is a bit more than a hobby. It is a healing activity. For some young people the musical skills they acquire through the project will always be a “hobby” playing in local bands and local venues. Some have reached level 4, degree level and have the potential to be professional musician. The success of one person encourages others to aim high as well and so contributes to the long-term recovery of North Kensington.
