COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

OPERATION SANTA CIC

Company Number: 13685971 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 October 2023

Company activities and impact

We had a very successful event fundraising year Nov 22 to Oct 23 – with most events taking place in Spring to early Autumn. All of our events took place in the local community with an emphasis on how Kings Heath/Moseley/Hall Green residents can support the neighbouring communities of Druids Heath and surrounding areas. This year the cost-of-living crisis was developing further since the economic rises/challenges started in 2021, the consequences of Covid’s impact etc. Our target area to support has been impoverished for decades and so these social economic aspects further debilitated the community and the fact that families were in greater need of help from organisations like Operation Santa. Fundraising events: Ceilidh family event - April Quiz nights – May and October Jukebox Disco – June Sponsored Walk/Family Fun Day – an annual event run by Moseley Rugby Club – this year they chose Operation Santa to be one of the benefactors. Fundraising auction – September – a very well attended event with a range of donations from local businesses. Other Fundraising included: JustGiving, schools collecting donations of chocolate and biscuits for family treat bags. Impact on Druids Heath & surrounding area: Our reach has increased every year: 2020: 122 kids - 50 families 2021: 170 kids - 60 families 2022: 220 kids – 73 families Every family has presents for every child (up to the age of 18), which they have chosen (up to the value of £20) and small gifts for parents (a toiletry kit or candle). With intelligent buying (Argos 2 for £15) and a 10-20% discount at Smyths Toys – we have been able to make funds spread further. We were able to add a £20 Iceland food voucher to the family treat bags Xmas 2022 – which were received with great gratitude. Every family received a treat bag – chocolates and biscuits – the majority of which were donated via 2 kings Heath schools. With the success of this year’s auction – Christmas 2023 (most of the buying takes place in November) looks likely to significantly increase our reach to help lots more families. Our frequent feedback from Spearhead and the DH schools communicate how much families appreciate this help. It can be confidently acknowledged that our slogan’s objective of: ‘Delivering hope at Christmas’ to make a real difference to financial hardship, has been achieved this year.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company stakeholders are 2 directors: Carly Sterne and Sarah Eblett and a small team of 7 other volunteers. We meet regularly to organise fundraising events and discuss other matters, including the administration aspects, purposes and reach of our operation. Added to this are the individuals who represent the 6 organisations/Primary Schools who we work with: they identify the children/families in need and compile lists of requested presents. This is Spearhead Trust in Druids Heath, St Jude’s Primary, The Oaks Primary, Broadmeadow Infants and Juniors and Bells Farm Primary. Sarah and I meet regularly with them to get their input/feedback on how they can contribute to fundraising, raising awareness and the continual refinement of the information they provide re; specific present requests, and the logistics of delivering the presents and treat bags.
