Company activities and impact

Between August 2023 and July 2024 Knots Arts has continued to support children and young people with social communication difficulties. Our activities continued in Richmond and Sutton throughout the year, with work in Camden ceasing in December 2023. We also continued to work in partnership with other local organisation, co-delivering drama and arts workshops throughout the year. We supported 160 children and young people through our direct termly and holiday projects and partner projects. Throughout the period we delivered: Drama sessions for young people aged 4 – 16 years old – 120 sessions, supporting 37 children to attend 543 times. Youth club activities for those aged 12 – 25 – 30 sessions supporting 17 young people to attend 256 times throughout the year in Mortlake. Specialist girls groups in Sutton supporting 28 girls aged 6 – 16 years to attend 541 times over 90 sessions. Drop in Drama sessions for children aged 4-12 – 33 sessions supporting around 30 children through drop in storytime and drama sessions in partnership with Skylarks Charity. Drama and dance groups in partnership with Activity Station - working with around 20 young people through 2 drama and dance sessions. Summer Holiday projects in Richmond for children aged 4-25 – supporting 18 children and young people to attend 57 times over 9 sessions in August 2023 and July 2024. Weekly Art group for children aged 6-16 – 12 sessions supporting 10 children from Camden, ending in December 2024. Drama sessions in Richmond Our drama sessions continued to run on Saturday mornings throughout the year. The sessions continued to have a focus on our three key objectives, building confidence, social skills and making friends. Input from a Speech and Language Therapist continued and we began to look at different support strategies to meet a wider range of needs that children and young people were presenting. Youth Club in Richmond Our youth club continued to meet on Saturday afternoons at the Powerstation Youth Club in Mortlake. Numbers remained steady throughout the year, with new members coming up from drama sessions to take spaces left by older members who have aged out of the project. The group continued to focus on building friendships alongside developing life skills though cookery and discussion projects. They also worked in partnership with Intergenerational Music Making on a half term project to create music which they then took into a local care home to perform to older adults. We continued to run the Jack Petchey Achievement award scheme throughout the year, young people benefitted from attending a Halloween scavenger Hunt in October 2023, A trip to a Dungeons and Dragons event at the British Library in February 2024 and the Balloon Museum and Laser Tag In April 2024. Girls Groups Our Girls Groups have continued to run weekly on Monday evenings during term time throughout the year. We have continued to increase our group numbers throughout the year, with plans for the next year to add a new group due to high demand for the project. The groups continue to be led by the girls, co-planning the activities at the beginning of each term to make sure that there is something the all enjoy. There is a continued focus on our key outcomes of confidence, friendships and social skills through these groups. Summer projects - August 2023 & July 2024 In August 2023 we ran a Play in a Week project supporting young people aged 13 - 25 to create a play which was performed at the Holly Lodge Centre in Richmond Park. 2023’s summer projects were scaled back from previous years due to a lack of funding. We secured a full summer of funding for 2024, and in July 2024 we ran the first week of this programme, our summer arts drop in sessions for neurodiverse children aged 6 - 8 and 9 - 11 years at Holy Trinity Church Hall in Barnes. Projects in Partnership Skylarks Charity - We continue to work closely with Skylarks charity. We delivered weekly drop in drama sessions for children with SEND living in Richmond and Twickenham on Tuesday afternoons at Skylarks family drop in day in Twickenham. From February 2024 we began running a fortnightly sensory storytelling session alongside our regular weekly drama sessions. Activity Station - We continued to work with Activity Station throughout the year, running drama and dance workshops for children and young people attending their monthly activity days in Barnes. Holborn Community Association - Our partnership with HCA came to an end in December 2023 due to the end of funding for the project and HCA deciding not to continue. Holly Lodge Centre - We ran a week long play in a week project at the Centre in August 2023 working with young people aged 13 - 25 years old. TAG Youth Club - We continued to partner with TAG Youth Club, delivering two Christmas holiday activity days and further dance workshops in Easter 2024. All workshops supported young people from age 8 - 25 with mild to moderate learning disabilities.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our participants and their families remained our primary stakeholders throught the year. We have continued to have an open dialogue and welcomed feedback both formally and informally from participants and families throughout the year. We support young people to give feedback during sessions, as well as collecting both verbal and written feedback from parents on a six monthly basis. All of our sessions are developed and shaped around the needs and suggestions of our children and young people and their families. We also consult with our volunteers and staff members to take on board new ideas and ensure that they feel valued and a part of our team. This consultation adds value for our children and young people as our volunteers bring different perspectives and ideas which allows us to deliver the best possible outcomes for our participants. We have continued to work closely with our funders, including BBC Children in Need, Jack Petchey Foundation, Awards for All and Richmond Parish Lands Charity throughout this year. We have secured 3 years of further funding for our drama sessions from Richmond Parish Lands Charity, match funded by a new funder, Heathrow Community Trust. We have also secured a further 3 years of funding from BBC Children in Need to continue to deliver and develop our Girls Groups in Sutton. We have also continued to build on partnership working with other local organisations, and have adapted our delivery to meet the needs of their participants. Our partnerships with Holly Lodge, Skylarks Charity, Activity Station, TAG Youth Club and Holborn Community Association have continued throughout the year, alongside a new collaboration with Intergenerational Music Makers.
