  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable for goods supplied and services rendered, net of discounts and Value Added Tax. Revenue from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership have transferred to the buyer (usually on despatch of the goods); the amount of revenue can be measured reliably; it is probable that the associated economic benefits will flow to the entity; and the costs incurred or to be incurred in respect of the transactions can be measured reliably.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible assets are initially recorded at cost, and subsequently stated at cost less any accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. Any tangible assets carried at revalued amounts are recorded at the fair value at the date of revaluation less any subsequent accumulated depreciation and subsequent accumulated impairment losses. An increase in the carrying amount of an asset as a result of a revaluation, is recognised in other comprehensive income and accumulated in equity, except to the extent it reverses a revaluation decrease of the same asset previously recognised in profit or loss. A decrease in the carrying amount of an asset as a result of revaluation, is recognised in other comprehensive income to the extent of any previously recognised revaluation increase accumulated in equity in respect of that asset. Where a revaluation decrease exceeds the accumulated revaluation gains accumulated in equity in respect of that asset, the excess shall be recognised in profit or loss. Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost or valuation of an asset, less its residual value, over the useful economic life of that asset as follows: Fixtures and fittings 25% straight line, Motor vehicles 25% straight line, Equipment 25% straight line.

Company Number: 13843290 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 January 2024

Company activities and impact

The Company runs the Quarry Cafe and Community Fridge (QCCF), located within the Stone Quarry estate in East Grinstead. The Quarry Cafe commenced business in 2017 as a one day a week pop-up community cafe. The Community Fridge element commenced in 2020 in response to the need to reduce food waste and support those with reduced incomes during the pandemic. During the financial year 2023-2024, the Quarry Cafe and Community Fridge’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: Provided a warm and safe space for local residents to meet each other, whilst enjoying food and drink, reducing social isolation and improving community cohesion – there is a regular group of 18 who visit or meet for this purpose. In addition to the other individuals that will turn up to benefit from social interaction. QCCF collected over 30 tonnes of surplus food from an extensive variety of supermarkets, restaurants, wholesalers and market gardens covering a radius of approximately 45 miles. QCCF has supported individuals and families in the East Grinstead community and all surrounding villages, covering a radius of approximately 6 miles. The vast majority of our users have been struggling with food poverty with a high occurrence of parents going without a meal to provide food for their children or individuals only able to eat once a day or even in some situations not eating a meal a day. In this financial period QCCF has developed a support card system to enable better monitoring and knowledge to guide support for the growing number of people needing help. QCCF is currently supporting 124 registered active card users per month, this creates total beneficiaries of 300 per month as a mix of families and individuals. QCCF has provided fresh fruit & veg, frozen meats, fish and vegetarian items. In addition, we have made our own range of ready meals to help support those users in the greatest difficulties. (i.e. people with disabilities, elderly, those in temporary accommodation or homeless). QCCF have also provided hot meals within our cafe for those in need at a discounted rate or free of charge when appropriate. In addition, QCCF registered support card customers are able to collect fresh milk, butter and eggs, these items are bought in specifically for this purpose. QCCF has worked in partnership with the East Grinstead Foodbank to support their users with fresh foods to ensure a healthy and adequate supply of food for those in most need. Additionally, QCCF received regular referrals from local secondary and primary schools and local authority and charity social workers. QCCF is also an active member of the Mid Sussex Food Partnership QCCF had a team of 21 volunteer workers who have contributed a total of 7,000 volunteer hours. Users of the Community Fridge are asked to make a donation (if they can afford it) for the food they take. Those whose main interest is in reducing food waste often give generously and this supports the provision of food to those who are struggling to provide food for their families.
