COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

TRAVEL THINGS MUSEUM CIC

Company Number: 12417591 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 January 2024

Company activities and impact

This year, our company celebrated the theme Weird & Wonderful Things From Around the World, with the London Design Festival. The initiative aimed to bring attention to the rich diversity and unique aspects of global cultures. It aimed to educate and entertain by highlighting fascinating artifacts, traditions, and everyday cultural objects from around the world, enhancing community appreciation of global diversity. The year’s collection featured rare and mysterious items such as a relic from Oslo’s winter landscapes, historical artifacts from an abandoned village in Oman, and vintage objects like Chinese propaganda tea and unusual Vienna postal keys. This collection attracted a wide audience, encouraging a broader understanding of cultural heritage and sparking community interest in global stories. Additionally, we collaborated with six passionate collectors who exhibited their unique lifetime collections, sharing the personal stories and cultural insights behind items such as flyswatters from Rotterdam, vintage airline memorabilia, and antique cream pots from the UK. The event included interactive elements like a crowdfunding activity where visitors could purchase vintage toys and a Curiosity Quiz offering participants a chance to win exclusive prizes. To further engage the community, we produced a series of short drone films showcasing breathtaking landscapes from countries such as China, South Korea, and Iceland, developed in collaboration with renowned VFX artist Robert Millin. Finally, our Museum Concept Store provided visitors with an opportunity to take home unique, culturally significant items, allowing them to connect with the exhibits in a meaningful way. We’re thrilled to report: Over 2,800 visitors attended our exhibition. We raised £169.53 through the donations box. We received 65 wonderful comments from visitors 86 people participated in our quiz game. We’re so grateful for the support from the LDF community and are always happy to contribute to the festival's success. Through these activities, we offered an engaging, educational experience that enriched the community’s understanding of and appreciation for global cultures.

Consultation with stakeholders

This year, our stakeholders included community members, visitors, volunteer designers, and local organizations involved in the public exhibition. To engage these stakeholders meaningfully, we invited 18 volunteer designers to collaborate and help host a public exhibition centered around our theme, "Weird & Wonderful Things From Around the World." We consulted with these designers through regular meetings and planning sessions, during which they provided valuable input on the exhibition's design, theme elements, and interactive activities. Feedback from these consultations highlighted a desire to make the exhibition more interactive and inclusive, with activities that would attract a diverse audience. In response to this feedback, we incorporated hands-on activities, such as a Curiosity Quiz and interactive displays, allowing visitors to engage with the exhibits more deeply. We also organized a crowdfunding event where visitors could purchase unique collectible items. This approach aimed to enhance visitor engagement while also supporting local creatives and collectors. The feedback-driven changes positively impacted visitor satisfaction and enriched the community experience, aligning with the interests of our stakeholders.
