Trauma Stop UK CIC Ltd has this year continued to trade its way out of the pandemic. The first quarter of the year saw some really great Therapy contracts with a number of schools and lots of children supported with CBT Therapy and some private clients. The domestic abuse support work noteably saw an increase in clients suffering hardship as a result of their homelessness and also many many safeguarding referrals. An additional Hartlepool School was taken on and we supported our first Child to Parental Abuse family Case as also the male victim support cases took an increase this year. Due to the statutory and crisis support services overwhelm coming out of Covid and the changing nature of the Integrated Care Boards Trauma Stop UK CIC has now began to pick up cases where statutory services are unable to practically support individuals and families. Trauma Stop UK CIC has a flexibility and immediate response service and clients like this and feel supported. The Social Enterprise had many men self-refer or refer via Paula’s growing reputation and yet did not wish to engage with statutory services. All of the males being supported are in work. There have been males from as far as Ireland as well as the South East of England in addition to males from the Tees Combined Authority areas and from more locally in County Durham. Of particular noteworthiness this year has been one particular case of coercive and controlling behaviour where Paula has supported a male often daily, wishing to end his life due to extreme domestic abuse by a female partner. She has also supported a child with Special Educational Needs where the family has been signed on an off services to the point where one parent is wishing to end their life and the child is consistently trying to strangle themselves. Needless to say this has been a really challenging year for Trauma Stop UK CIC indeed and yet these experiences have seen her professional reputation grow and her to now be widely known around the County Durham area. Trauma Stop UK CIC has this year delivered the male victim “Life Back Programme” with Oasis Community Housing, a Charity that supports homeless men and women. Feedback was “ The Course was fantastic and very informative. Very learner friendly. It tackled very sensitive subjects very well and helped me to look at things in my past with more understanding. The content was delivered exceptionally well and it was nice to be in the presence of someone so passionate. Thank you so much!” In May 2023 Paula the MD undertook training in the NEPO Portal and also worked collaboratively with the Just For Women’s Centre in Stanley who were struggling for a week in June with their coffee shop. In the summer Trauma Stop UK CIC had its first male emergency accommodation refuge request and with the support of statutory services supported a man who was experiencing homelessness. As the premises are a counselling premises and not built to be a male refuge Paula Maddison Green has realised that in order for the Social Enterprise of Trauma Stop UK CIC to grow to its next phase then she will need a larger house where she could secure two fixed places for male victims to realise her dream of having her own domestic abuse refuge. Whilst liaising with the police throughout her work she has continued to undertake extensive research on refuges and to this end in August has made the decision to move home and has just secured a sale on a property in the Redcar area which she has already been in talks with the Local Authority and PCC Commissioners on. With the move date fast approaching in January 2024 Paula is excited to see this next growth phase of her social enterprise and has requested all Directors focus on funding bids and corporate sponsorship to get the necessary fire systems and security and building control and planning measures in place. For her sustainability Paula is in discussions to also take on employed status work. This premises its hoped will potentially house a person longer term with a disability here on the ground floor.
