Directors' report period ended 31 January 2024

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 January 2024

Principal activities of the company

With the aim to secure interest for a UK and European tour in 2025, company directors Jennifer Farmer and Seta White, along with app developer Samuel Overington delivered an interactive pitch to the board of enoa (European Network of Opera Academies) at Snape Maltings in February 2023. The pitch was filmed so that it can be distributed to venues and organisations that might be interested in hosting Link in My Bio as it tours in 2025, particularly those looking to reach young people and underrepresented communities. In June 2023, Britten Pears Arts and Les Theatres de la Ville de Luxembourg confirmed that they would act as co-producers on the premiere of Link in My Bio, along with the Lucilin Ensemble. In June 2023, it was confirmed that the University of Greenwich had secured funding to partner with us on researching the creation of a blueprint for sharing our co-creation and non-hierarchical methodologies with other opera-makers and organisations. We were paired with researcher Gabby Messeder who acted as an observer during one of our workshops. For this research, Arcola Theatre came on board as a partner, providing space, equipment and community outreach to their participants. In January 24, Link In My Bio was formally commissioned, with Jennifer beginning to write the libretto and Seta beginning pre-production work on casting and building creative team. Through our research partnership with the University of Greenwich, in August 2024, we facilitated community outreach workshops with Arcola Theatre in East London and Bollo Brooke Youth Centre in Ealing. The workshop with Arcola Theatre was a multi-generational group where along with the opera’s co-composers, we explored non-traditional scoring and non-hierarchical music-making. With Bollo Brook Youth Centre, we worked with the opera’s app developer to explore young people’s experiences of gaming and virtual worlds. As both areas in London are undergoing displacement through gentrification, these communities reflect those impacted by the opera’s themes. Both sets of participants engaged in drama and creative writing
