Accounting reference date The company has taken advantage of the provisions in section 390 of the Companies Act 2006 which allow the company to make accounts up to a date within seven days of the accounting reference date. Going concern
During the year the company has continued to be affected to a lesser extent by the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic. It has also been affected by the cost of living crisis and related inflation of costs.Despite these challenges the business has continued to operate successfully. The directors have considered current performance and the results for the year and they are confident that these show that the company is able to operate within its available facilities and meet its external liabilities as they fall due for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the directors have determined that at the time of approving these financial statements it is appropriate to prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis.
Revenue recognition
The turnover shown in the profit and loss account represents residents fees earned during the year.
Income tax
Current tax represents the amount of tax payable or receivable in respect of the taxable profit (or loss) for the current or past reporting periods. It is measured at the amount expected to be paid or recovered using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date. Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date where transactions or events have occurred at that date that will result in an obligation to pay more, or a right to pay less or to receive more tax. Deferred tax is measured on an undiscounted basis at the tax rates that are expected to apply in the periods in which timing differences reverse, based on tax rates and laws enacted or substantively enacted at the balance sheet date.
Tangible assets
All fixed assets are initially recorded at cost, and subsequently stated at cost less any accumulated depreciation and impairment losses.
Depreciation
Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost or valuation of an asset, less its residual value, over the useful economic life of that asset as follows:
|
Improvements to property |
- |
10% reducing balance |
|
Fixtures and fittings |
- |
25% reducing balance |
|
Motor vehicles |
- |
25% reducing balance |
|
Office equipment |
- |
20% reducing balance |
|
|
|
|
Impairment of fixed assets
A review for indicators of impairment is carried out at each reporting date, with the recoverable amount being estimated where such indicators exist. Where the carrying value exceeds the recoverable amount, the asset is impaired accordingly. Prior impairments are also reviewed for possible reversal at each reporting date.
Hire purchase agreements
Assets held under hire purchase agreements are capitalised and disclosed under tangible fixed assets at their fair value. The capital element of the future payments is treated as a liability and the interest is charged to the profit and loss account on a straight line basis.
