Year Ending: 31 March 2024

Company activities and impact

Dryad Bushcraft CIC is a specialist Bushcraft and wilderness education school with a primary focus on the safe and authentic delivery of workshops, courses, and guided walks. Many of our courses and activities have been tailored to meet the requirements of mental health organisations, such as Coed lleol, Happy Headwork and MIND. We also work with Veterans charities and alternative education for children with additional learning needs. In addition to our activities, we manage a section of woodland, at Parkwood on Gower. This work involves the selective coppicing and clearing of woodland to increase biodiversity. Much of the work is conducted by volunteers as part of our activity programme. Based on feedback that we’ve received from participants, our activities have had a significant positive effect on their mental and physical health, as well as helping them to gain skills and motivation for future employment. We are planning to expand our activities to include social prescribing and alternative delivery methods, for people who cannot attend outdoor sessions.

Consultation with stakeholders

We regularly consult with our delivery partners Gower Unearthed CIC, Coed Lleol, SCVS, Gower College, Swansea Community Farm, Happy Headwork CIC, Fathom Trust, Swansea Veterans Hub, City and County of Swansea, Swansea University Health Board, Trinity College. These consultations are conducted face to face or via Zoom, with a primary focus on establishing best practice and highlighting barriers to participation.
