Company activities and impact

Idaraya Life provided accessible health and wellbeing activities through Textile crafts, residential wellbeing weekends and physical activity sessions. This was delivered to women in Wigan and Greater Manchester. During the period of November 2022 and October 2023, the organisation benefited the community in the following ways. Distributed 30 warm packs across 12 families of the african diaspora. Mindful Crafty School and Sewing Club: Delivered a weekly Mindful Crafty School (teaching knitting, paper and fabric marbling, batik stencilling, embroidery lino printing, string art and tie dye to women) alongside meditative mindfulness practice. The sewing club supported women to build confidence by learning how to pattern cut and make items of clothing for themselves. Holiday Activities and Food Programme: Facilitated craft sessions as part of holiday activities for highschool aged children. Delivered a Teenage Sewing Course: Delivered a 4-session sewing course to 8 children aged 10 - 15 years in collaboration with Wigan Workshop. Swim n Move Project: Hosted monthly women-only swimming sessions at a local leisure centre in addition to funding swimming lessons for women of the African Diaspora. We also provided exercise classes such as Zumba and Boxing fitness as part of this programme. Family Social: Hosted 2 Family socials for community members of diverse cultural backgrounds to gather with their children to connect. Probation Service Pilot: Delivered a 6 month pilot for the ministry of justice to support women on probation via creative activities and holistic support in partnership with ReMade Wigan. Delivered 2 accessible crafts workshops in collaboration with a local social enterprise to disabled adults and adults with learning difficulties. Together for Nature: Facilitated a community growing project that involved growing edible food and aesthetic flowers in an assigned allotment within Alexandra Park’s community garden as well as distributing plant pots and seeds for home growing. Outdoor Wellbeing: Across several projects, Idaraya Life led Community walks at Haigh woodland park, delivered free summer outdoor weekly exercise classes to a local Nigerian Women’s group in Mesnes Park. As part of TFGM’s Cycle and Stride project, 3 bikes were distributed to community members and recordings were developed to support individual self care practices (these included recording for meditation and guided walks) Women’s Wellbeing Weekends: Delivered 2 residential women’s wellbeing weekends supporting 26 women across greater manchester to stay for 2 nights in YHA accommodation and benefit from healing in the outdoors. A Little Bit Wild: Co-hosted an overnight stay at Wythenshawe park to support women from a diverse range of cultures to have a taste of camping and experience nature overnight. In addition to the activities below, Idaraya Life engaged in the Wigan Council’s Children’s day celebrations, delivered a full day of shibori flag making utising found twigs and indigo dye for children at Haigh Woodland Park alongside ReMade Wigan. Mindfulness Course: Delivered 2 8-week mindfulness based stress reduction courses to men and women in greater manchester. A course was delivered online and another in-person to Salford based communities.

Consultation with stakeholders

Across this financial year, 53 women from Wigan and Greater Manchester directly benefited from our services with over 100 women engaging with our services. Our primary stakeholders are women of the African diaspora based in Wigan and Leigh. We receive feedback consistent via the WhatsApp community group through polls and direct questions for qualitative answers. The feedback received has led to us evolving our delivery to focus on more holistic and community building activities such as residentials and socials for the group to connect in the outdoors rather than the exercise focus we previously had.

Directors' remuneration

The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £14,804.00. All monies received were in the directors' capacity as facilitators and not as directors. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
