Protect Accent provides Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion training, focusing on accent biases and inclusion. Our expertise has helped raise awareness of discrimination based on accents within organisations and society. We have organised various events, including conferences and virtual gatherings with the NHS, corporate organisations, and diverse communities at local, national, and global levels, engaging students, employers, and employees from all walks of life. A significant milestone was the creation of the Protect Accent Student Society (PASS), launched at the University of Bradford on October 11, 2024. The students displayed various cultural dances and gave insightful speeches about their accents. PASS aims to empower all voices regardless of accents. Our online and in-person accent bias training courses are designed to help individuals and organisations understand and appreciate non-familiar accents. On October 12th, 2024, we celebrated the fourth anniversary of the “World Accents Celebration Day,” which was preceded by the launching of PASS in collaboration with the University of Bradford Student Union on October 11th, 2024. We have reached many people in our local communities, as well as students, employers, and employees from various disciplines all around the globe. Consultation with stakeholders Protect Accent stakeholders are those impacted by discrimination related to accents. We have interviewed both employees and employers to gather a variety of experiences and insights on how accent biases manifest in organizations and society at large. Additionally, we have engaged with various corporate bodies and the NHS to examine the issue of accent biases and seek solutions. To date, we have reached over 25 organisations and 200,000 individuals. This year, we focused on leveraging the power of the media to promote an accent-inclusive society. We also consulted with the Student Union at the University of Bradford to explore ways to help students reach their full potential. Following the establishment of the Protect Accent Student Society (PASS), we received many positive feedback responses.
