Company activities and impact

The Sew In Group CIC is a community-focused organisation dedicated to making sewing and textile crafts accessible to all, regardless of age or skill level. Over the past year, our activities have grown significantly, benefiting hundreds of individuals across Medway and the wider Kent area. Our regular sewing clubs for children and young people have been a cornerstone of our work. These clubs, including after-school and holiday programs, provide a safe and creative environment for children to explore their artistic abilities while learning valuable sewing skills. We've partnered with local schools to bring sewing and textiles workshops directly into the classroom, allowing students to discover their creative potential and develop practical skills that can serve them in future pursuits. For the wider community, we offer weekly adult sewing workshops aimed at reducing social isolation and providing opportunities for individuals to learn new skills, make friends, and find joy in a shared craft. These workshops have been a valuable space for people to come together, connect, and create, particularly for those who may be experiencing loneliness or looking to build confidence through new hobbies. Additionally, our ‘Medway Sewcial’ initiative encourages the community to participate in charitable projects, such as creating drainage bags and mastectomy pillows for local hospitals. These projects have not only raised awareness of important health causes but have also fostered a sense of purpose and accomplishment among participants. Through these diverse activities, The Sew In Group CIC has made a lasting impact on the community, promoting creativity, skill development, and social cohesion. Our workshops and clubs continue to empower individuals, enrich the local culture, and strengthen the bonds within our community.

Consultation with stakeholders

The Sew In Group's stakeholders consist of a board of four directors, club leads who facilitate our workshops, and the service users within our community. Our board of directors holds quarterly online meetings to discuss future plans, allocate funds, review ongoing initiatives, and assess feedback from both our club leaders and service users. These discussions ensure that our activities remain aligned with the needs of the community and that resources are used effectively. We regularly gather feedback from our service users, both in person (group discussions and feedback forms) and via online forms, to stay informed about their evolving needs. This feedback has been instrumental in shaping new initiatives, such as our ‘Pay It Forward Scheme’, which aims to provide more accessibility within our workshops and facilities to all members of the community.
