COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

FOG LANE PARK CAFE CIC

Company Number: 13849834 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 January 2024

Company activities and impact

In the space provided below, please insert a general account of the company’s activities in the financial year to which the report relates, including a description of how they have benefited the community. The company runs Fog Lane Park Cafe, a community cafe in Fog Lane Park, Manchester. We serve locally made cakes and pastries, we employ local people and pay a living wage. During the financial year 2023-2024, the cafe’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways. We have a Chatter and Natter table on a Friday afternoon. We run an Art Club for children during all school holidays, this has proven very popular. We have children's art materials available at all times and we have a free library, which is part of the Manchester Little Library Trial. Our library is promoted on materials and maps. We work very closely with the Friends of Fog Lane Park and have a great relationship with them. We provide space for their monthly meetings, support their activities and offer them free tea or coffee following their litter picks. We provide discounted drinks for any volunteer groups that are active in or using the park. We have worked to make the park more attractive. Local residents came to join us as we painted the fence around the bowling green directly outside the cafe, following comments that it looked like a prison. Everyone has had a great reaction to that improvement. We also commissioned murals on the pavilion and the changing rooms, reflecting the beautiful local birds. We hosted council activities, including the unveiling of the blue plaque commemorating the Manchester Corinthians Women's Football Team and children's HAF school meal provision during holidays. We communicate with the Parks Team and our Park Ranger about activities, safety concerns and ways to improve the park for our community. Other community activities we have organised or facilitated include choir performances in the park, English classes for Ukrainian people, children's activity trails, opening late for outdoor theatre performances, pop up plant shops with a local business, pop up local food businesses in the summer evenings. We also provide a lost property service and are a place to go for people who need help or are looking for lost property.

Consultation with stakeholders

We have regular meetings with Manchester City Council park rangers and the Friends of Fog Lane Park. We were involved in a public consultation by Manchester City Council that gathered feedback about the park's facilities, including the cafe.

The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £8,650
