SENDTIVATE CIC is set up in October 2010and started trading in June 2021. Our aim is to provide unique inclusive support to all young people living with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), improving sibling relationships, promoting overall wellbeing of the families within the community. We have successfully increased our work and reached over 150 families within the Royal borough of Greenwich, London borough of Bexley and Medway council. We at Sendtivate have motivated and continue to motivate young people to develop skills that they would not ordinarily have developed. We have encouraged and continue to encourage young people to share their ideas through art for their pleasure while building on their developmental skills. Our mission is to transform the lives of hundreds of teenagers and young adults with special educational needs each year is fostered by creating opportunities for them to learn life-skills activities and empower them to develop those skills gained which will help them live a better life, gain confidence, reduce isolation and reach their full potential. Children and young people who live local to us have been motivated to learn new skills set and come up with many innovative ideas to craft those ideas and apply them in their own life. They have also develop skills in creative expression both verbally and visually and learnt how to see problems from different perspectives. We continue to run a FREE after school club on Mondays “TERM TIME ONLY” and also HOLIDAY activities for SEND children and young people and their siblings. These club activities have equipped our young people with a creative process that they can apply in academic work context or when pursuing their own personal creative projects. They have gained new ideas and skills set as the world is always looking for ideas that con solve problems. We have run free sessions for siblings , young carers to affirm them and build their confidence. Pampering sessions was run to make them feel loved and valued because of their constant caring role. Mental health sessions were run so that they can talk about their mental health and feelings as we recognise that being a young carer can be overwhelming and daunting. We continue to organise outings, relaxation/pampering sessions, workshops and coffee mornings for parents in other to share ideas, learn from each other’s experiences, networking and community cohesion within the SEND world. We have recorded more increase than the previous year from feedback from families we continue to work with , of how our work have helped to improved overall families mental health and wellbeing, reduced isolation , obesity , depression, anxiety, reduced screen time, and community cohesion.
Sendtivate’s stakeholders are local residents whose children have special educational needs and disability from low income BAME background. The directors of the organisation have a lived experience of what it is to be a carer, live in a SEND world, the prevailing effects of Covid-19 on SEND families, stigmatisation and isolation involved in being a carer that has birth the organisation from talking/supporting, signposting and involvement with SEND families within the community. We made an effort to go to schools and faith groups and set out a short questionnaire about the prevailing effect of the Covid-19 on special needs families. This has helped us to build up a profile of SEND family’s needs and what we can do to meet them more effectively. Our research showed that there is more than 750 families within royal borough of Greenwich alone who live with the children that have additional needs without adequate support from the local authority. We have reached out to some of them who are now using our service. Also same consultations were done in Bexley council and with similar outcome
