Our funds come from our members, (local businesses and private citizens) who contribute a small amount each month (£20.24) to be used to seed fund new entrepreneurial endeavors around Derry city for the benefit of the region. We also receive single one-off donations from benefactors and passionate members of the diaspora, who believe in our goals. Your Derry’s funds (dispersed via a project called The LAB Fund), help fledgling startups, budding entrepreneurs and community activists get their projects off the ground by providing seed capital towards great ideas and initiatives other funding organisations may not be able to help, help quickly or quantify the potential/impact of for the local economy. Our work promotes Leadership, Ambition and Belief around the region and encourages people to pursue these values in their lives and work, as a broader message to the population that these values can not only change their own lives, but will benefit the entire city and region. We’ve used the LAB Fund to support several private and social enterprises around Derry City which have shown great potential for growth, employment and improving the economic landscape and profile of the city and region.
We consider both our regular paying members and the wider public to be our stakeholders - and we consult with them using a) a members mailing list and b) our social media channels respectively, informing them at each stage about the next round of funding, who has been short listed and why we’ve supported each award made. Each round of funding is overseen by a panel of judges that include Your Derry directors and paying members of the LAB Fund with a relevant background in founding private and social enterprises. It’s a true community based collaboration and initiative.
