CyclAbility provides inclusive cycling opportunities for adults and older children in Oxfordshire who face significant barriers to traditional cycling. Our mission is to create a welcoming, safe, and accessible environment that enables participants to engage in adaptive cycling activities and experience physical, mental, and social benefits. CyclAbility operates sessions at the Horspath Athletics Track in Oxford City, offering twice-weekly, track-based cycling with a large fleet of adapted cycles. These sessions, which accommodate individuals with a range of physical, cognitive, and social needs, include learn-to-ride classes and Bikeability tuition tailored for participants who may find cycling on the road challenging or impractical. Through CyclAbility, participants experience a sense of achievement, joy, and independence, with many describing improved physical and mental health because of their engagement. CyclAbility collaborates with over 30 local community organisations, schools, charities, and support groups, reaching diverse communities, including priority neighbourhoods. The impact extends beyond participants to carers, who benefit from social interaction, exercise, and the opportunity to witness the positive changes CyclAbility brings to those they support.
CyclAbility’s primary stakeholders include: Participants: Individuals with disabilities, long-term health conditions, or those who face barriers to traditional cycling. Carers: Family members or support workers who attend sessions with participants. Volunteers and Staff: CyclAbility’s session leaders and volunteers who facilitate sessions. Community Partners: Local schools, charities, and more than 30 Oxfordshire community organisations. There has been no consultation held in 23/24 although an extensive consultation has been undertaken in Summer 2024 and will be included in the next report.
