We organised 51 events this year, successfully balancing online and offline engagement. We are catering to the needs and preferences of our diverse community. In addition, we supported four university-specific events, enhancing the university experience for Hong Kong students in the UK. Our programs served 4,500 students, providing valuable resources such as education information, and networking opportunities, all of which have contributed to their personal and professional development. Academic In partnership with Collaborative Hong Kong Women CIC, we launched a comprehensive academic support program in September 2023. This initiative, which focused on weekend tutorials to assist students in preparing for the 11+ Admission Test and the GCSE exams, significantly impacted students' academic performance. The program provided students thorough subject reviews, practice exams, and one-on-one tutoring sessions. Expert tutors guided the students through challenging topics, offering personalised feedback and study strategies to enhance their understanding and performance. The aim was to ensure that each student felt confident and well-prepared to achieve their best results in these crucial examinations, thereby showcasing our commitment to academic success and the well-being of our members. Culture We strongly emphasise cultural celebration and inclusivity through various events. With generous sponsorship from North West RSMP, we hosted an LGBT event in Manchester. These events created a safe, welcoming environment where teenagers could express their identities freely and connect with others in the community. Activities included discussions, support groups, and social gatherings to promote acceptance and solidarity. In addition to LGBT events, we organised and sponsored numerous cultural events celebrating our rich heritage. These events featured traditional music, dance, food, and art, providing students with a taste of home, fostering cultural pride, highlighting Hong Kong’s history, traditions, and contemporary culture, and encouraging students to share their experiences and learn from one another. Entertainment Our entertainment events aim to provide students with fun and relaxation, offering a break from their academic routines. One of the standout activities was Table Flipping, which was inspired by the popular event in Japan. Students participated in this unique event to relieve stress by flipping tables in a controlled, entertaining setting. The event was a huge success, offering a memorable and therapeutic experience. We organised multiple orientation days across cities, including Leeds, Guildford, Manchester, and Sheffield. These events were designed to help new students settle into their surroundings, meet peers, and build a support network. Activities included campus tours, ice-breaking games, and informative sessions about university life and local amenities. We held a Discord Night event ahead of the crucial GCSE and A-Level result days. This virtual gathering provided students a supportive space to share their feelings and experiences. Moderated by our team, the event included fun games, group chats, and anxiety-relief tips, ensuring students felt supported and connected as they awaited their results. University Events Our university events were designed to enrich the student experience and foster a sense of community among Hong Kong students in the UK. The Variety Shows, hosted by University College London, the University of Sheffield, and the University of Birmingham, were significant highlights. These shows featured diverse performances, including music, dance, comedy, and drama, showcasing the incredible talents of our students. The well-attended events provided a vibrant, celebratory atmosphere that united students to appreciate their peers' talents. Through these detailed and varied events, we aimed to support the academic success, cultural identity, personal well-being, and social integration of Hong Kong students in the UK. Each event was carefully designed to meet our student community's specific needs and interests, ensuring they had a fulfilling and enriching experience throughout the year. AI Development Regarding AI development, HKSAcic made significant strides in November 2023 by launching two new GPT tools: "Life in the UK Test" and "UK Education Info." These tools, designed to assist users in preparing for the Life in the UK Test and accessing educational information, were made accessible with limited use following an update from OpenAI in May 2024. In the first seven days after the update, more than 1,000 people used our bots, demonstrating these resources' high demand and utility. These AI tools have not only provided accessible and valuable information to our community but have also reassured them about our organisation's technological advancements, enhancing our support services and instilling confidence in our members.
