Company activities and impact

Scottish Ethnic Minority Autistics CIC was incorporated in February 2022 with the aim to support racialised autistic people living in Scotland. In order to do this we have worked with the Scottish Government, carers centres and local community organisations. From our inception we have been involved in: Different Minds Campaign Being a stakeholder in Learning Disabilities, Autism Neurodivergency Bill Part of the CPG for Autism Research facilitator and advisor to Scottish Government Autism Policy Mental Health Reform Recorded training materials for mental health practitioners Webinars for Minority Ethnic carers of East Renfrewshire Seminars for Minority Ethnic carers and participants of Al Masaar Mental Health Wellbeing Stirling group Training in collaboration with Autism Understanding for NKS Edinburgh Supported carers of autistic individuals in Falkirk, Stirling and East Renfrewshire through WhatsApp groups Supported adult autistic individuals on our Facebook group Created a website with linked resources. Our Facebook group has 30 participants, the Falkirk and Stirling Autism support group has 25 members while the East Renfrewshire Additional Support Needs group has 64 members. We regularly post resources, offer advice and facilitate peer support. Over the year we have also provided one to one support to carers of autistic children and virtual support to autistic adults. We have recorded a podcast on The Late Discovered Club- Series 3 Episode 4- which was released in April. It was our request to translate the Different Minds Autism Myths books which are not locate on our website. We have impacted not only carers and autistic adults, but through our advocacy and consultation work with the Scottish Government, we have raised the profile of Minority Ethnic Autistic people in terms of policy planning. As a result of intervention, the Scottish Government commissioned us to feed into training material for GP’s and mental health practitioners. We have also been commissioned to enhance the LDAN Bill consultation to enable participation from minority ethnicity communities. As a result of our efforts being recognised by our stakeholders, we were nominated and succeeded to become finalists at the British Muslim Awards and National Diversity Awards.
