Women in Vision UK Community Interest Company (WVUK) aims to help women working in the area of vision develop professional connections, in order to help them further their careers. During the financial year 2023-2024, WVUK has benefitted the community in the following ways: - WVUK held in in-person meeting in Cambridge in December. This was for members and non-members. The meeting benefitted the community by providing CPD and networking opportunities. Presenters were given the opportunity to have their abstract published in BMJ Open Ophthalmology, evidencing their research output. - Members were able to take part in a relaunched mentoring scheme, benefitting mentors and mentees in their career development. - Job opportunities circulated to members. - Professional achievements from members highlighted in newsletters and on social media, raising the professional profile of members.
The company’s stakeholders are members and prospective members, primarily women working in the NHS, universities, and eye care companies. In the financial year 2023-2024, stakeholders were consulted through a range of channels: an in-person meeting held in December 2023, an upcoming in-person meeting in November 2024, and an ongoing, wide-reaching online survey aimed at both current and prospective members. This survey is designed to gather feedback on how we can better support our membership and attract new members, with results set to be collated and reviewed in early 2025. Additionally, a specific feedback survey tailored for our clinical members will be launched at the November 2024 meeting. Insights from these consultations will guide our planning of events, training workshops, partnerships, and the development of our mentorship scheme.
