Let’s Chat Law CIC was founded in July 2020 to help those from underrepresented backgrounds enter the legal industry. Let’s Chat Law incorporated as a Community Interest Company in February 2023 with the goal of reaching more aspiring lawyers, organising bigger and better events and collaborating with guest speakers and other organisations (to help them find diverse talent). During the financial year 2023 to 2024, Let’s Chat Law’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: Hosting three online career workshops sharing tips for obtaining training contract and pupillage applications and interviews; Hosting five commercial awareness workshops to discuss recent news stories and legal concepts in small groups; Hosting multiple informal networking events including coffee mornings and a visit to Horizon 22 in London; Creating and sharing resources after each workshop including speakers’ notes, presentation decks, blank worksheets and worksheets with model answers for practising commercial awareness. All our events and resources remain free of charge and accessible to all (depending on the capacity of the venue/online meeting provider). Due to capacity issues, we have not yet been able to secure funding/sponsorship for our activities and therefore we do not have any assets or generated any revenue.
Let’s Chat Law’s stakeholders are the aspiring lawyers who are members of our online community i.e. those who subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on social media platforms. The team of volunteers who offer their time to help organise and host events, create website content, and create and organise social media content, are also our stakeholders. We ask for feedback by email through our monthly newsletter, which provides an update to subscribers about Let’s Chat Law’s recent activities, updates and upcoming events. Members are also able to contact us through social media platforms with their feedback. We also ask for feedback from attendees after each event which has resulted in changes to how we run events. For example, feedback on our commercial awareness workshops was to increase the time in the breakout rooms for discussing the selected news story in a smaller group setting. We have therefore made a conscious effort to ensure that the presentation about the news story does not exceed the allocated time and attendees have up to 30 minutes to discuss. We have monthly team meetings with volunteers to discuss completed tasks and actions for the upcoming month. Volunteers have the opportunity to share feedback in our monthly team meetings and capacity forms.
