The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 29 February 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019). |
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES |
Objectives and aims |
The objectives as set out in the Trust Deed are to advance Christian faith through evangelism, promote the worship of God, develop individuals according to the teaching of Jesus Christ and to support sister churches through financial assistance. The Upper Room Ministries aims to achieve these objectives by selflessly giving and honouring an obligation to tithe in order to establish a sound, debt free foundation. |

Review of Activities |
As with previous years, the Upper Room Ministries, provides a weekly online Sunday service with Holy Communion now taken every Sunday. Bishop Albina ordinarily takes the Service but if she is working, Senior Pastor Karen or Reverend Zizi will lead. Bishop Albina accompanied by members from here in Wisbech, has been able to travel to Guildford once a month to join with the congregants there. |
The Ministry has been able to hold its online Bible Study every Thursday evening and the first Friday every month has continued for prayer and intercession in overnight Services. These prayer meetings, ‘The Threshing Floor’ have been a feature of the Ministry for many years (though not in an online form). Formerly known as ‘Shiloh’ the meetings allow for deep prayer and a worshipping of our creator. |
Our Sunday Services would be incomplete without the teachings contained in our ‘Samuel House’ Children’s Ministry and it is wonderful to see those youngsters. who were in primary school, are still attending well into their secondary school years and even beyond! Sincere thanks to Pastor Venencia and Mrs. Betty Rogers. |
Much has happened in Zambia over the last year with the opening of the church building situated in Chama/Sumbukeni Village on October 15th 2023. This project, started in 2021, has seen the transformation of a cassava field, to a fully functional Church /Community Centre building with running water, a sewage system and electricity. The building is inclusive of a kitchen, an office space and a bedroom with ensuite facilities. Bishop Albina, her husband Andrew and children Tanya and Malama travelled to Zambia to attend this auspicious occasion. Amidst much celebration, Chief Kalasa Lukangaba and Chief Mwansakombe (Bishop Albina’s brother) accompanied by Headmen Malunga, Chitonga, Chama and Sumbu, cut the red ribbon to officially open the building. Each Chief and Headman was presented with a large basket of goods. |
The day before, the building hosted 7 couples who had their marriages blessed and we were introduced to Upper Room members from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Luamfumu, Senama and Kalaba who stayed over in the church. These groups provided praise songs and dance with huge energy over the weekend and the joyous couples were presented with wedding rings with the brides dressed in beautiful flowing gowns with veils and tiaras. At the gathering, church members were ordained to serve the Ministry as Pastors, Deacons, Evangelists and Elders. |
On the same visit to Zambia, the team was able to part-fund a start-up school which has been adopted to become the TURM (The Upper Room Ministries) Academy (later TURM Nursery and Primary School) which officially opened on February 2nd following a cholera outbreak. This enormous undertaking is aimed at providing an educational opportunity for the children of the poor underclass that live in the village. Wooden partitions have been used to divide the interior space of the Church into 4 PODs or classrooms and Pastor Paul has allowed 2 nursery classes to use a refurbished building and 6 teachers, 3 teaching assistants and 5 cooks have been employed. |
It is important to mention the goodwill that the supporters of the Ministry and its aims, have shown. Without their prayers and offerings, the aspirations of TURM cannot be met and nothing will change for the needy. |
Reverend Zizi Lopez has continued to be active in supporting the churches in Malawi. We are grateful for the excellent work in Malawi by Senior Pastor Marko Gostino in Mtchitanjiru, Lilongwe; Pastor Alfred Chokani in Mwataya, Lilongwe and Pastor Patrick Gulani in Ndirande, Blantyre. The Upper Room Academy in Ndirande Township has continued to thrive, and the school is hopeful that some pupils will be selected for secondary school places in 2025. |
In South Africa, the Upper Room Ministries branches continue to be ably led by Pastor Sibongile Manyaka in Soshanguve and by Senior Pastor Hlengi Seshabela in Mabopane, Pretoria. Both pastors have been very busy with ministry work, participating and hosting outreach activities. The Ministry hosted the “It is finished…’ conference over the Easter period 7th, 8th and 9th April and on 22nd April, Pastor Manyaka was a guest speaker at the ‘Human Rights and Freedom Day’ celebration at the Manhattan Hotel. On 19th May, the Ministry, represented by Pastor Manyaka took part in all-night prayer at the El-Hakkabod Center Ministries and then took the lead in a Prayer and Fasting meeting at the Nafcoc Auditorium on 17th June. An exciting event took place on 24th June when the Ministry took to the streets for an open-air prayer march with participants casually dressed in tracksuits and trainers. |
Pastor Manyaka was invited as a guest speaker by The Heart of God International Ministries at their ‘Do not be afraid for I am with you’ conference at the In-Door Sports Center on 5th August. Another interesting development has been our participation in the EKASI FM Family Magazine Show with Pastor Manyaka taking part every Thursday. |

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES |
We are immensely proud of Senior Pastor Hlengi Seshabela’s consecration into the family of ECOPBA (Episcopal College of Pentecostal Bishops and Apostles) on February 17th. Hlengi has been and continues to be, a hugely valued member of our Ministry since 2002 where her faithfulness in upholding the teachings and traditions of the Church and her honesty and moral uprightness, have been to the forefront of her worship. Throughout this period, she has shown a deep understanding of theology and scripture and has been able to apply this knowledge to her pastoral work, initially as a very successful Youth Pastor. |
Once again, we rely on Wanangwa at Wachenda Studios in South Africa for producing our weekly flyers where we highlight the Ministers and their churches. Creative and colourful, the leaflets provide a useful overview of the churches that are embraced by The Upper Room Ministries. |
In Zambia, The Upper Room Ministries operates under its affiliate, The Upper Room Tabernacle Ministries which is registered with The Registrar of Societies and is affiliated to The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia. Bishop Duwen Musaka and his wife Reverend Julia Musaka lead the Ministry in Lusaka, Kapiri Mposhi, Kabwe, Kabwe Rural and Luano District. We were pleased that Bishop Duwen and Reverend Julia were able to travel to Mansa for the opening of the church in October. Bishop Duwen did an excellent job as MC for the event, leading everyone through a very compact programme. I should mention that Bishop Duwen is also working with the Free Grace Evangelistic Association involved in the distribution of Bibles and has made visits to Malawi and Congo (Kinshasa) recently. |
The Church has continued to support financially, ‘Christians against Poverty’ on a monthly basis as part of our mission outreach. |
