COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SOMEBODY'S DAD CIC

Company Number: 15159518 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 September 2024

Company activities and impact

Somebody’s Dad has been providing counselling to men who are unable to see their children. Funding was received to carry out the counselling and so far 42 hours of counselling have been provided. This has helped men who have lost or unable to see their children to cope with their lives and find ways to better deal with their issues. The activities of the company have helped to improve the mental health of it’s clients and support them through difficult times.

Consultation with stakeholders

The companies stakeholders are the clients that receive counselling and fit the criteria of living without their children in Stockport area. The founding director of the company, Neil Gaw, has lived in Stockport since birth and is now a qualified Counsellor, registered with the BACP. Having seen a need to encourage men to partake in counselling, he devised a walking therapy idea to be provided to men who had lost or were unable to see their children. The company carried out a survey to gather information from Dad’s who fitted the criteria of the service. The questions were designed to look at the need for the service. Feedback from the survey was then used to support grant application with the national lottery and this was approved by them. Feedback from the survey showed that men would welcome being offered walking therapy where they could talked about their issues. The company has worked hard to help create awareness of the service through social media, leafletting and contacting local organisations, businesses and Stockport council. The company has made good connections which has meant the service is being promoted and recommended throughout Stockport. Connections made and who have advertised the service include Stockport Safeguarding manager, MP Lisa Smart, Labour counsellor Rosemary Barrett, Andy’s Man Club, NHS Pennine Care, Dad Matters, Stockport Without Abuse and many more. From conversations with these companies, the feedback was very positive that the benefits of this service were in great need.

Directors' remuneration

Neil Gaw has received payment for the counselling sessions provided totalling £1890. No other director’s have received remuneration.
