In the financial year 2023-2024, Smile Musical Youth Theatre (SMYT) has continued to deliver significant benefits to the local community, providing creative opportunities, cultural enrichment, and social engagement for people of all ages. Key Achievements: 1. Youth Development: SMYT engaged young people aged 11-19 in theatrical productions, offering skill development in acting, singing, dancing and teamwork, alongside boosting confidence and self-expression. 2. Community Collaboration: We partnered with Sandwell Council on several community initiatives, including celebrations for the King’s Coronation and Sandwell Pride, strengthening our ties to the local area and fostering inclusivity. We also worked with West Brom Bid to support in a number of community events, including their Christmas Lights Switch On. 3. Cultural Contributions: Through performances such as We Will Rock You and Pinocchio we welcomed over 1,000 audience members, bringing affordable, high-quality theatre to the community and promoting arts appreciation. 4. Volunteer Opportunities: With the support of many dedicated volunteers, we created a space for community members to contribute to and gain experience in event organisation and stagecraft. We have provided training opportunities and other skills progression opportunities to a range of people from ages 17+. Smile Musical Youth Theatre remains committed to enriching lives through the performing arts and fostering a thriving, inclusive community.
The company's stakeholders form the production team, committee and parents of our members. The directors of the company have a rich training and expertise in all aspects of performing arts, allowing them to pass on their knowledge and experience to the cast members, volunteers and other members of the community. The directors meet monthly with the committee members, made up of volunteers, to consistently reflect on and improve what the company offers to its members and the community. We have introduced member representatives to allow the members to feedback in an open and supportive manner to improve communication and what is offered to the members. We will regularly ask the members for their ideas and suggestions of activities and ways to improve for each of the young people. As a company, we offer a robust welfare support to all of our members, ensuring our members are fully safeguarded and protected as required. This is to ensure that members feel safe and supported whilst in our care. Directors will also offer education, careers and university advice when asked to ensure transitions from different education stages are supported as fully as possible. We meet with parents in a formal manner twice a year, to share and communicate what's happening within the company. Alongside this, we meet with parents and family members as and when required to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of the members in the best way possible.
Sarah Jennings - £200 over the year. Ella Daire - £200 over the year. Joe Logan - £0 over the year.
