COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

ABERDEEN BIRTH COLLECTIVE CIC

Company Number: SC751791 (Scotland)

Year Ending: 30 November 2023

Company activities and impact

Aberdeen Birth Collective CIC (‘ABC’) has provided independently funded in person birth support and antenatal classes which have benefited the community by being free at the point of access. In its first year ABC was awarded a grant of £2000 from the Communities Health and Wellbeing Fund administered by Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action, to provide birth and postnatal support to clients in Aberdeenshire. Some of this grant was also used for setup costs including creating a website and mandatory training for our doulas. A further grant of £5000 was received from the Aberdeen city locality Health Improvement Fund to pay for group antenatal classes, of which three blocks were run in the Rosemount and Midstocket areas of Aberdeen city during the financial year to which this report relates. In our first year we provided doula support to a total of seven families across the Grampian area, and a further 28 couples benefitted from our city centre antenatal classes. Of the women and families supported within Aberdeen, this support was offered either voluntarily, funded by donation, or externally funded by Let’s All Talk North East Mums (LATNEM).

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are the women, birthing people and families we support, health professionals and members of the third sector such as midwives and peer supporters, and the birth workers who provide our services. Consultation with our doulas and the people we support is ongoing via intake and feedback forms which we use to identify how our support has impacted our client group and areas which need to be improved upon.
